A new report from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) reveals that nearly four million non-citizens were issued Social Security Numbers (SSNs) during President Joe Biden’s time in office, prompting renewed debate over immigration policy, federal benefits, and election integrity.
According to the figures, the number of SSNs granted to non-citizens skyrocketed during Biden’s term — from 270,425 in 2021 to more than 2 million in 2024 alone, totaling 3,920,028 over the four-year period. The data was highlighted by Fox Business host Stuart Varney during a Tuesday segment of Varney & Co., where he broke down the year-by-year surge and raised concerns about the system’s vulnerability.
The report suggests that the process involved minimal verification — with documents, including SSNs, allegedly mailed without in-person interviews or robust identity checks. “The immigration department mailed them a Social Security number. No interview. No proof of identity — just put it in the mail,” Varney added.
A System Under Pressure
The implications of the DOGE report reach beyond just Social Security numbers. Varney noted that 1.3 million non-citizens are now receiving Medicaid, while many others have acquired driver’s licenses. DOGE also alleged that some registered to vote, and “some actually did vote,” according to the agency’s findings — although no specific number was provided.
Critics argue the system is being overwhelmed and potentially abused, while supporters of the Biden-era policies maintain that asylum seekers deserve the ability to support themselves while awaiting their court dates.
Political Firestorm
The report’s findings are likely to fuel ongoing partisan battles over immigration and public benefit programs, especially as lawmakers prepare for the 2026 midterm elections. Varney took aim at Democrats who accuse figures like Elon Musk of threatening Social Security and Medicaid, flipping the narrative by suggesting the real threat comes from within the current system.
“Who is really guilty of misinformation in this case? It is not Elon Musk,” Varney concluded.
Critics of the report argue that conflating asylum seekers with “illegal aliens” is misleading, and that while non-citizens may receive temporary SSNs and work permits, eligibility for voting and benefits like Medicaid varies by state. Readers should note that pro-migration organizations often coach border crossers to say they’re seeking asylum whether or not that’s actually true.
What Happens Next?
The report is expected to trigger investigations and possibly hearings in Congress, particularly from lawmakers seeking to overhaul asylum procedures and tighten benefit eligibility.
As the debate heats up, questions arise about the facilitation of so many SSNs under the Biden Administration, and what can be done to ensue the integrity of the system.

How in the hell did that happen. Illegal aliens have no right to have a social security number or frankly any other assistance. As an American citizen, I worked hard and paid into social security and have been fortunate to have this to help live on now. I don’t appreciate using funds to keep illegal aliens in this country.
