Progressive commentator and former MSNBC host Krystal Ball is facing intense criticism after suggesting Latino Americans who serve as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers are betraying their own communities and enforcing policies for people who “will never see them as fellow Americans.”
Ball made the remarks Tuesday on the I’ve Had It podcast, hosted by Jennifer Welch and Angie “Pumps” Sullivan, during a discussion on the Trump administration’s immigration policies and the political attitudes of various demographic groups.
Ball: Latino ICE Agents Lack “Moral Compass” and “Self-Preservation”
Ball argued that many conservatives only care about issues when they personally experience the consequences, accusing them of lacking empathy. The conversation then shifted to immigration and ICE, prompting Welch to reference Ball’s past criticism of the agency.
Ball escalated, arguing that Latino ICE agents are uniquely complicit in harming their own communities.
“How many times have you seen these guys… brown skin tone, a dude who looks like his last name is probably like López or Hernández?” she said.
“What is wrong with you? Not only do you not have morality, apparently you don’t have self-preservation.”
ICE officers often wear masks due to threats and harassment from far-left activists — which intensified after multiple attacks on ICE facilities in recent months. Ball dismissed the danger they face and instead framed their service as an ideological and racial betrayal.
Claim: “Heritage Americans” Will Never Accept Latino Officers
Ball further argued that the officers are enforcing policies for a group she called “Heritage Americans,” whom she claims consider Latino immigrants and their descendants inherently un-American.
“These people hate you… They don’t think you belong here. You’re not a ‘heritage American.’ You’re never going to belong,” she said.
“And you’re the one implementing the violent force against your own community. I just can’t wrap my head around that.”
Comments Draw Strong Reactions
Ball’s remarks quickly drew backlash online for portraying Latino ICE agents as lacking integrity and for implying they should be defined primarily by ethnicity rather than by their oath of service.
Critics also noted the comments came amid heightened tensions following a series of violent attacks on federal immigration facilities — including shootings, attempted firebombings, and recent riots in New York City.
The Trump administration has acknowledged that ICE officers, particularly Hispanic agents who make up a large share of the agency’s workforce, have increasingly been subjected to threats, doxxing attempts, and harassment by activists opposed to immigration enforcement.
Ongoing Debate Over Immigration and Identity
Ball, who co-hosts the popular political podcast Breaking Points, has long been a critic of ICE and of strict immigration enforcement more broadly. Her latest comments, however, represent one of her most sweeping denunciations of the agency’s Latino officers to date, raising fresh questions about the line between ideological critique and ethnic targeting.

Deporting illegal aliens does not qualify to hispanic law enforcement in the USA as one of their own. I guess the news folks don’t understand that country boundaries do not equate to illegal aliens being your fellow citizens if you cross the USA border illegally for whatever illegal gain you came here for illegally. Come here legally or do not come at all. Can’t say that enough at all!.
