Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has successfully barred the Biden administration from sending Department of Justice (DOJ) personnel inside Texas election locations, citing a need to protect state sovereignty and uphold Texas election laws.
Paxton’s office confirmed the DOJ has agreed to retract plans to place federal monitors in polling locations throughout the state. “Texans run Texas elections, and we will not be bullied by the Department of Justice,” Paxton posted on his social media account, emphasizing that DOJ officials “know they have no authority to monitor Texas elections.” Paxton stated that the DOJ only withdrew its plans after Texas authorities “stood up for the rule of law.”

In a related move, Paxton deployed the Election Day Rapid Response Legal Team across major cities in Texas. The team’s purpose, according to the Office of the Attorney General (OAG), is to monitor election activity, ensure compliance with state election laws and take immediate legal action if needed. The office described the team’s role as a proactive measure against potential issues, such as ballot shortages, polling site closures and improper voting hour extensions.
“The OAG is prepared to address any litigation that may arise on Election Day and will remain vigilant against any activist efforts attempting to disrupt the election process through legal means,” the office stated.
Texans who observe suspicious election activity are encouraged to report incidents to a designated hotline at (512) 553-1080 or (800) 252-8683. The Rapid Response Legal Team will work closely with the Texas Secretary of State to handle reported issues swiftly, reinforcing Texas’s commitment to fair and secure elections.
This move underscores Paxton’s ongoing opposition to federal involvement in Texas elections, positioning the state to independently oversee its election integrity.
