During a Channel 4 interview in the United Kingdom on Election Night, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) claimed that Americans who voted for Donald Trump did so because of racism. Her remarks have sparked a strong reaction, with critics suggesting that Democrats are leaning into a divisive strategy that alienates, rather than engages, the voters they need.
Instead of recognizing the perspectives of Trump supporters, most argue that leaders like Waters are doubling down on a combative approach that risks further isolating everyday Americans. As seen in this election, Trump has drawn a growing multi-ethnic, working-class coalition—a trend Waters didn’t brother to address, even as Democrats increasingly cater to progressive, upper class constituencies.

Cuomo Pushes Back, Questions Democrats’ Strategy
Back in the U.S., former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, now with NewsNation, called Waters out for her criticism of Trump voters.
“Trump had a following, basically led by whites. White males voted in big numbers,” Waters said, referring to Trump’s appeal across a broad swath of working-class America.
Cuomo was quick to challenge her stance. “It seemed to me that Democrats thought ‘Trump stinks’ would be enough,” he said, adding that even prominent progressives like Bernie Sanders have questioned whether the Democratic Party is losing touch with working-class Americans. “The Democratic Party used to be all about working people,” Cuomo continued, quoting Sanders. “You are now seen as not that, even by Bernie Sanders.”

Controversies Surrounding Waters: A Look at the Record
Maxine Waters, now 86, has served as a representative for a Los Angeles district in the U.S. House of Representatives since 1991, marking over three decades in office. Throughout her long tenure, she has faced several ethics investigations, often involving allegations of favoritism and potential conflicts of interest.
In 2010, Waters was investigated for ethics violations, stemming from allegations that she used her influence to assist OneUnited Bank—where her husband held stock and had been a director. The House Ethics Committee looked into her role in facilitating meetings between the bank and the U.S. Treasury during the 2008 financial crisis. After nearly three years, Waters was cleared of all charges in 2012.
Additionally, reports have highlighted that Waters’s relatives have earned over $1 million through business dealings linked to her congressional activities. Waters has maintained that her family’s business interests are separate from her role in Congress.
In 2018, the National Legal and Policy Center filed complaints alleging that Waters’s campaign violated finance regulations by using slate mailers, an issue that raised questions about her campaign’s financial practices.
Organizations like Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) have included Waters on its list of the most corrupt members of Congress.

If your FIRST explanation of other people’s actions is that they are motivated by racism, then YOU are the racist.
All Dems have is Racisim to blame ALL for Loss
If she is representative of the black race then call me a racist. But she no more represents their race than a dumbass like Behar represents the white race. Every race has dumbass radicals that represent very few members of that particular race. It just seems like a disproportionate number of them are liberals.
They all said Trump was divisive. Listening to Waters, Reid, the View and all the others from MSM, who’s really more divisive than that group?
