Border Czar Tom Homan praised the Trump administration’s border security efforts during an interview with Newsmax on Thursday, declaring that the U.S. southern border is now the “most secure in the history of this nation.”
“Illegal crossings on the southern border are down 96%,” Homan told Greta Van Susteren on The Record. “We have the most secure border in the history of this nation, even beating Trump 45. President Trump is a game-changer, and its success has been unprecedented.”
Homan, who previously served as acting ICE Director, emphasized the renewed morale and momentum within U.S. border enforcement agencies since Trump returned to the Oval Office. He noted a dramatic surge in recruitment efforts across Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the U.S. Border Patrol.
“Last month, Border Patrol had the highest recruiting numbers at any time in the history of the United States Border Patrol,” Homan stated. “Now that they know we’ve got President Trump in office, you get to do the job that you signed up for. You get to uphold the oath you took.”
According to Homan, many former agents and officers who left during the Biden administration have expressed a desire to return to service.
“A lot of people want to come back and make America safe again. They want to secure our border and protect America,” he said. “A secure border gives strong national security. Recruiting right now is not a problem.”
Despite what Homan called historic improvements, he said further action from Congress is still needed.
“We just need Congress to pass that budget to give us money, to bring out more resources. We need money to hire people,” he said. “That’s what we’re waiting on.”
Homan also reiterated his long-held position that a physical border barrier remains essential to long-term success in curbing illegal immigration and drug trafficking.
“Every place they build a border barrier, illegal immigration went down, drug flow went down,” he noted. “But the walls also save lives. Women and children can’t get over that wall, which means they’re going to a place where there’s not a wall, and they’re going to be met with Border Patrol, who take care of the humanitarian needs.”
The Biden administration halted most border wall construction in 2021, citing “cost” and “environmental concerns,” despite the funds being allocated by the previous administration. Contradictory to the official narrative, the Biden administration willingly hemorrhaged money by halting construction. Trump’s second-term push has included renewed construction and funding for additional border infrastructure, while also increasing deportations and aggressively targeting cartel-linked trafficking networks.

“Oh, building a fence is just like E.Germany building a wall.” Except that argument is exactly backward. Which is typical of Democrat arguments.
