Radio personality Charlamagne tha God is facing criticism for failing to address a crucial question about Kamala Harris’ record during Tuesday night’s town hall with the Democratic presidential nominee. The question, raised before the event by Jamal Trulove—a man wrongfully convicted of murder during Harris’ tenure as San Francisco District Attorney—went unanswered.

Trulove, who was awarded $13.1 million after spending six years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit, had urged Charlamagne to hold Harris accountable for her role in his wrongful conviction. After the event, Trulove took to social media to criticize Charlamagne for failing to press Harris for answers.

“You had an opportunity to have a legitimate conversation about the issues we face in the Black community and actually press Kamala for answers and hold her accountable for her part in hurting the Black community over the years,” Trulove wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “But you chose to play softball and let her on your platform to spew political propaganda.”

Fifteen years ago, Harris’ then-office prosecuted Trulove on murder charges based on dubious circumstantial evidence. Advocates eventually helped exonerate Trulove, but only after he spent six harrowing years in a maximum-security prison hundreds of miles from his family. He endured violence and near-death experiences, including being stabbed, during his incarceration.

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors ultimately awarded Trulove a $13.1 million settlement, citing the concealment of exculpatory evidence regarding the sole eyewitness and the prejudicial tactics employed by Harris’ office.

While sidestepping her past controversies, Harris agreed with Charlamagne’s claim that Donald Trump’s campaign is “about fascism.”

The New York Post adds further details:

Harris, 59, was describing the choice voters had between her campaign and Trump’s when Charlamagne, whose real name is Lenard McKelvey, brought up fascism.

“One [choice], mine, that is about taking us forward and progress and investing in the American people, investing in their ambitions, dealing with their challenges,” she said.

“And the other, Donald Trump, is about taking us backward.”

“The other is about fascism. Why can’t we just say it?” Charlamagne asked in reference to Trump.

“Yes, we can say that,” Harris concurred.

When the interview was uploaded, the online reaction—particularly in the comments section—was largely negative.

Since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee, Harris has faced little to no pressure from liberals to explain her past actions or reconcile them with her current positions.
