Dennis Quaid is the latest Hollywood heavyweight throwing his support behind Spencer Pratt’s unlikely run for Los Angeles mayor.
The “Parent Trap” star didn’t mince words when asked about the race during an interview with Fox News Digital at the 2nd Annual Military & Veteran Entertainment Awards Gala on May 23.
“Go Spencer Pratt,” Quaid declared.
And when pressed on why he’s backing the former “Hills” reality star over the city’s political establishment, the actor’s answer was blunt.
“Why? What are you talking about? Why? Just look around, man,” Quaid said.
Pratt, 42, launched his longshot campaign earlier this year after becoming one of Mayor Karen Bass’ most vocal critics in the aftermath of the devastating Los Angeles wildfires. The reality TV personality, who lost his home in the blaze, has built his campaign around issues including homelessness, public safety, wildfire preparedness and government spending.
He officially announced his bid during a January “They Let Us Burn” protest, a movement that emerged in response to growing anger over the city’s handling of the fires.
Quaid, 72, has been one of the movement’s highest-profile supporters.
The Emmy-nominated actor was forced to evacuate during the Palisades Fire and has repeatedly blasted Bass and city leadership over their response to the disaster. He previously criticized the mayor for traveling to Ghana as the fires erupted and questioned the city’s preparedness, citing water shortages and budget cuts affecting the Los Angeles Fire Department.
In the months since, Quaid has joined “They Let Us Burn” demonstrations, publicly called for Bass to resign and backed efforts to recall the mayor.
His endorsement marks another boost for Pratt, whose insurgent campaign has gained momentum in recent weeks following a widely praised debate performance against Bass and City Councilmember Nithya Raman, along with a string of viral campaign ads that have energized supporters.
While Bass remains the frontrunner heading into the June 2 primary, recent polling has shown Pratt climbing into second place ahead of Raman. With no candidate currently projected to clear the 50% threshold needed for an outright victory, the race appears increasingly likely to head to a November runoff.
As the campaign enters its final stretch, Pratt’s candidacy has become one of Hollywood’s most divisive political storylines — with celebrities lining up on both sides of the race.
Now, he can add Dennis Quaid to his growing list of supporters.
