A former Fox News regular is behind bars.
Police in Florida arrested Areu Jones, better known as Cathy Areu, who used to appear on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” as the “Liberal Sherpa.” Areu allegedly kidnapped and exploited her elderly mother.
Prosecutors say she even tried to evade arrest by fleeing to Mexico.
Areu tried to use power of attorney to involuntarily place her mother into assisted living and control her assets. The Florida Department of Children and Families released Areu’s mother both times she was taken, determining that she was not in need of such care.
Areu allegedly tricked her mom by saying they were going to get ice cream with her granddaughters when instead she placed her in a facility. The second time, the liberal pundit and a friend had to drag her mother out of her home. Although she was only temporarily detained, prosecutors say Areu managed to steal more than $200,000 from her mother.

Catherine Areu Jones, 51, has been arrested on charges including exploitation of the elderly, organized scheme to defraud, conspiracy to commit organized scheme to defraud, kidnapping, false imprisonment and fraudulent use of personal identification, the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office announced Friday.
Prosecutors said Areu Jones has been sought by the State Attorney’s Office Elder Exploitation Task Force and the Miami-Dade Police Department since an arrest warrant was issued for her in June, but she allegedly relocated several times, including to Mexico, to avoid arrest.
Areu Jones was booked into the Miami-Dade jail early Friday and remained held without bond. Attorney information wasn’t available.

When detectives reviewed the victim’s financial affairs, they showed a total loss of over $224,000, including the missing disbursement of the proceeds of a reverse mortgage on the victim’s home that had been voluntarily undertaken by the victim but which all appeared to go into accounts controlled by Areu Jones, prosecutors said.
Areu also sued Fox News Channel in 2020, claiming harassment. A judge dismissed the suit.

Years ago when she was on Fox she appeared to be kinda Looney and Goofy. Never thought for a second she was Smart or Cunning enough to scam anybody out of money, let alone her mother ! The Dem Party must have advised her since those days how to Re-Purpose $$$ !
What a wonderful daughter stealing her mother’s money, guess she couldn’t wait for her inheritance. Hope jail helps her see the error of her ways.
