Former President Donald Trump and his Vice President Mike Pence gave dueling speeches yesterday, which received markedly different coverage on cable news, particularly when it came to Fox News Channel.
Neither CNN nor MSNBC carried Trump or Pence’s speeches live, but their hosts and on-air personalities discussed Pence’s remarks at various times throughout the day. (RELATED: Pence Aides Testified Before Grand Jury in Jan. 6 Probe)
Pence spoke before conservative activists at a Young America’s Foundation event. Fox News covered his speech live for about 15 minutes.
Later in the day, Trump spoke for 90 minutes at the America First Policy Institute summit in Washington, D.C. None of the big three cable news networks carried the former president’s speech. As Mediaite reports:
Newsmax and Fox News have differed before in their coverage of Trump speeches, with Newsmax offering Super Bowl-like coverage of Trump rallies with fully programmed pre and post-coverage. Fox News, on the other hand, has chosen to air its highly rated regularly scheduled programming.
Newsmax’s coverage of Trump rallies has helped the ratings beleaguered network boost its numbers, although it has been unable to retain the audience that tunes in for the rallies.
Fox News’ prime time hosts did mention Trump’s speech and Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham dedicated much of their handover between shows to praising Trump’s speech.
Ingraham told Hannity she wanted to give Trump a “compliment” and took aim at a regular criticism leveled against the former president. “Yeah. I mean, he’s like, oh, he’s not substantive? What other politician in America can keep a crowd in rapt attention for 90 minutes straight? It was I think it was great,” said Ingraham.
Tuesday’s speech marked Trump’s first time in our nation’s capitol since his last day as president of the United States.

I watched Trump at the American First policy Summit. Not one of his best speeches a bit flat but Trump was back in enemy territory The Washington DC crime filled dirty lying swamp with the right arm reporting the filth and lies MSM. That was courageous of Trump! As for Pence who cares about Him. I just hope he doesn’t give the Christians the image of being a back biter while he thinks he is better for America than The Trump!
I thought it was a great speech. He covered all the points of fixing the disastrous mess Biden has made of our country. And we know he can do it again. In spite of all the dirty investigations, very slanted Main Stream Media always lying about him, he was so strong and plowed through to make us energy independent, made our Southern Borders as secure as they have ever been, cut taxes, etc., etc.. Promises made – promises kept. Biden had done nothing positive in a year and a half, and has us in the worst shape we have been in.
It’s not like we haven’t heard Trump’s speech before…over and over and over. Was great to hear Pence talk about the future!
