Jay Leno’s Doctor Provides Update as Comedian Recovers From Second, Third-Degree Burns

-

Legendary funnyman is in “good spirits” despite suffering “serious burns” during a fire at his Burbank, California garage.

The garage houses roughly 340 cars and motorcycles. On Sunday, Leno suffered second and third-degree burns to his face, hands and chest while working underneath one of his cars.

Dr. Peter Grossman told reporters Wednesday that Leno has undergone one surgery and is scheduled for another. Grossman described Leno's first surgery as a “surgical excision and grafting procedure.”

Given the dynamic nature of burn injuries, Grossman noted it's impossible to predict what kind of lasting damage Leno will sustain. Through it all, Grossman said Leno was recovering well and doing his best to lift up the spirits of the other patients.

He's even taken time to hand out cookies to children in the burn unit.

Fox News further reports:

“We're very happy to have him as part of our team,” the doctor said.

Leno said in a statement to Fox News Digital shortly after the accident, “I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire. I am OK. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet.”

However, Grossman noted that Leno is realizing this might take a little longer than “a week or two.”

“He seems to be a gentleman who really doesn't want to make a big deal of this,” Grossman told reporters. “He wants to get back to work, that's what he does. I had to tell him that he needs to step back a bit and that these things take time.”

  1. To The Daily Loud:. Bursted ?!? Seriously?
“BURST” is the past tense of “burst.” Please learn the English language before writing something that is meant to go public. I am so sick of seeing various so-called “journalists” who do not know proper English grammar, usage and spelling, not to mention the fact that proofreading appears to be a dying art and profession. It is no wonder the children today don’t speak proper English.

    • I understand that you are a ‘word smith’ Sabel~ but do you have nothing kind or encouraging to say to Jay Leno?? Just snippy corrections? You’re part of what’s wrong with our society. Consider the content. Life isn’t just about corrections, and ‘being right’.
Jay~ your good character proceeds you in these reports. I’m SO very sorry this happened to you! I’m sure your wife Mavis? is a pillar of strength and a gift of compassion for you~ you would be one to minimize the event. But it will take time and patience to heal; and we know that attitude (and much prayers) is everything.
Prayers from many decades of fans that our God is present with you through every day (No, He didn’t just allow this), and His wisdom and perseverance, to heal, comfort and preserve you both. Never lose your good humor, for it will continue to be be your sanity. Laughter and faith IS STILL the best medicine!

  2. Hang in there Jay. Burns, as you know, are horribly painful. There will be a lot of pain in the process of de-breeding of the skin but it sounds like they put you under to do it. Times have changed as they did mine in a tub of warm water after a shot of Demerol, that I found out a year later, that was watered down. Spokane, Washington VA Hospital-1971. Get well and God Bless!

  3. Dead to me since the politically correct gutless wonder snubbed the NRA by canceling his NRA Convention speaking engagement.
