Former MSNBC host Joy Reid is making headlines again—this time for an explosive and profanity-laden tirade against Vice President JD Vance during an interview published Thursday on writer Tommy Christopher’s Substack.
Reid, now an independent media figure after being fired from MSNBC, lashed out at Vance following a statement he made earlier that day. Vance, who was elected vice president in the 2024 election, criticized Reid for a lack of gratitude for her success in America.
“Joy Reid has had such a good life in this country. It’s been overwhelmingly kind and gracious to her. She is far wealthier than most. Yet she oozes with contempt,” Vance wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter), which quickly went viral with over 3 million views. “My honest, non-trolling advice to Joy Reid is that you’d be a much happier person if you showed a little gratitude.”
The post appeared to reference a past interview in which Reid discussed her mother’s migration from Guyana to the United States. Reid recounted her mother’s early experiences and the disillusionment that came with the American dream. “They didn’t tell me this was the land of opportunity—but not for me,” she recalled her mother saying.
Reid responded without a filter upon hearing about Vance’s comments during the Substack interview.
“JD Vance, since you’re paying attention to me: F— you!” she said, launching into a heated and explicit rebuttal. “Like, f— you forever!”
Reid went on to accuse Vance of racism, particularly in regard to black immigrants and their achievements. “You, because you are a racist a–hole, believe that black people are given opportunity by white people,” she said. “You can’t accept that my mother, who became a PhD-holding college professor, earned her opportunity to be a professor.”
She also referenced a remark Vance made during a campaign speech last year, invoking the comment as part of her broader point. “I say that on behalf of every black woman who heard you call Kamala Devi Harris ‘the trash,’” she added.
The interview marks one of Reid’s most pointed and personal attacks since leaving MSNBC. Known for her outspoken progressive views, she has continued to engage politically through her podcast and media appearances.
Vance, a former senator, venture capitalist, and author of Hillbilly Elegy, has emerged as a central figure in the Trump Administration and the Republican Party. His rise to the vice presidency was seen as a symbolic win for the populist wing of the GOP.
The clash between Reid and Vance is emblematic of a deeper cultural and political divide in the U.S.—one that continues to play out not just in Washington, but across social media platforms and alternative media outlets. With both figures unafraid to speak their minds, this latest war of words is unlikely to be the last.

Someone needs to educate Reid. Her mouth is her worst enemy! And if does show how ignorant she is. Why is she still on any network? No one except a lunatic to be insighted wants to watch this crap. I have not watched any networks at all for years. My spouse turns it on and I leave. It is just BS, all of it! Journalism is dead!
