Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) unleashed on a reporter who questioned her about unverified rumors alleging she had a sexual relationship with former Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), angrily dismissing the claims and accusing the media of engaging in sexist clickbait.
The heated exchange occurred during an interview with Fox News Digital, where Boebert had been discussing President Donald Trump’s efforts to reshape the Republican Party and support primary challengers against incumbent lawmakers.
The conversation took an abrupt turn when a reporter raised allegations made by a woman identifying herself as Massie’s former girlfriend.
“F*ck you, first of all!” Boebert fired back.
The Colorado congresswoman then accused the reporter of attempting to generate sensational headlines rather than discuss substantive issues.
“If you’re gonna bring me into this, like, the sexist stuff is like out of control,” Boebert said. “So there’s your clickbait that you were looking for.”
She declined to answer further questions on the topic and ended the interview.
The allegations stem from claims made by Cynthia West, a former congressional aide who has alleged that Massie told her he had a sexual relationship with Boebert in the weeks following the death of his wife. West has not publicly provided evidence supporting the accusation, and the claim remains unverified.
Massie has categorically denied the allegations.
In a statement posted on X, the former Kentucky congressman rejected claims of inappropriate conduct and denied separate allegations that he offered West money to withdraw a complaint against him.
“All of the claims of inappropriate conduct are false. I’ve never offered anyone money in exchange for their silence,” Massie wrote.
“I report all of my farm income, including cash, to the IRS,” he added. “There are no ethics claims filed against me, nor have there ever been any claims filed against me in my 14 years in office.”
The controversy comes at a politically difficult moment for Massie, who recently lost his Republican primary to Ed Gallrein, a challenger endorsed by President Donald Trump. The race marked the tipping point of a long-running feud between Trump and Massie, who frequently broke with the president and Republican leadership on major issues.
Throughout the primary battle, Boebert remained one of Massie’s most vocal supporters. She publicly campaigned on his behalf and continued backing him even after Trump criticized her support for the Kentucky congressman.
As of now, the allegations come from the claims of a single accuser and have not been independently corroborated.
The exchange also highlights the increasingly personal nature of political coverage surrounding high-profile lawmakers, where rumors and private-life allegations can quickly become part of the broader political conversation.
