MSNBC is reportedly axing Joy Reid’s nightly show, The ReidOut, amid declining ratings, with the program potentially being off the air as early as Monday. According to The New York Times, Reid’s show, which has aired at 7 p.m. Eastern time on weekdays since 2020, will be replaced by a new panel show featuring MSNBC personalities Symone Sanders-Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez. The shake-up is part of a broader restructuring at MSNBC, which is reportedly reevaluating its programming lineup in the wake of significant audience losses.
Reid’s show has been known for its progressive rhetoric, often criticizing conservative figures and policies. The host has faced criticism for some of her inflammatory remarks, including an attack on “white women” for not supporting Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, with many critics accusing Reid of fueling division.

The network saw a staggering 53% drop in viewership following Vice President Kamala Harris’ loss in the 2024 election, according to The Wall Street Journal. The most recent ratings for Joy Reid’s The ReidOut are dismal, with only 708,000 total viewers — a 47 percent collapse from the 1.4 million average viewers she attracted just prior to the 2024 election. Reid’s viewership in the 25-54 age group, which is what sets advertising rates, has dive-bombed 52 percent to 76,000.
In addition to Reid’s show, The New York Times reported that Alex Wagner’s program—slated to return in April—could also be facing cancellation. Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki is reportedly in line to replace Wagner.
The cancellation of The ReidOut marks the end of Reid’s longstanding tenure at MSNBC, where she has been since 2016. Over her time with the network, Reid has built a reputation for her often controversial commentary. While some applauded her style of delivery, others have criticized her for divisive rhetoric.
