Teamsters Union President Sean O’Brien expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Democratic Party during a recent appearance on comedian Theo Von’s This Past Weekend podcast, claiming that the party had neglected the interests of his union members. O’Brien, known for his straight talk, criticized Democrats for decades of inaction regarding labor concerns, stating that they have “f**ked us over for the last 40 years.”
During the podcast, O’Brien disclosed a tense meeting with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), describing it as “f**king ugly.” He also stressed the growing frustration within his organization toward their historical allies in the Democratic Party, pointing out that despite their longstanding support, the party has increasingly aligned itself with Big Tech interests rather than labor.
“I’ll be honest with you, I’m a Democrat,” O’Brien said, “but they have f**ked us over… not all of them, but we’re standing up as a union, probably the only one right now saying, what the f**k have you done for us?” He went on to reveal that, under his leadership, the Teamsters have donated $15.7 million to Democratic candidates over the past two and a half years but had seen little return in terms of labor-friendly policies.
O’Brien contrasted this with the comparatively small donations the union made to Republicans, amounting to around $340,000.

In a significant departure from tradition, O’Brien announced on Sept. 18 that the Teamsters would not endorse a candidate for the 2024 presidential election, marking the first time since 1996 that the powerful union has opted not to back a candidate. The decision reflects growing internal divisions, particularly following a noticeable increase in support for former President Donald Trump among Teamsters members. Polling data shared by the union revealed that Trump was gaining traction, particularly after President Joe Biden chose to drop out of the race.
A union-conducted electronic poll from July 24 to Sept. 15 showed Trump leading with 59.6% support compared to Vice President Kamala Harris’ 34%. An independent phone poll by Lake Research Partners from Sept. 9 to 15 similarly showed Trump leading Harris by 58% to 31%.
BREAKING: Teamsters, one of the largest labor unions in the country, just released a poll showing that an overwhelming majority of their over 1.2 MILLION members support Trump over Kamala Harris

This seismic shift poses a significant challenge for Democrats, who have traditionally relied on support from labor unions like the Teamsters, representing 1.3 million workers nationwide.
The Teamsters’ decision not to endorse either Trump or Harris this year hints at a possible political realignment within labor unions.
