On Thursday, former NBC anchor Brian Williams issued a stark critique of the Democratic Party during an appearance on Seth Meyers’ late-night talk show. Williams asserted that the party’s current trajectory is unsustainable, blaming its leadership for what he described as excessive pandering to minority groups and an elitist disconnect from everyday Americans.
“It is tough love time for the Democratic Party. I think it needs to be stripped down and rebuilt,” Williams began, addressing both Meyers and a subdued studio audience.

Williams’ remarks have drawn attention across the political spectrum. The Hill, covering his comments, highlighted his criticism of the party’s cultural detachment, quoting his observation that Democrats have “gone quinoa while the rest of America is eating at Cracker Barrel.”
But the major problem for Democrats, the anchor said, is the “insulting” way the party seemingly dismissed voter concerns on issues such as immigration and the economy.

“Tell them the NASDAQ is gangbusters in further insulting,” he said. “For the working class to see incoming migrants getting welcome bags, debit cards and motel rooms is probably insulting as well, so there is a lot of work to do.”
Williams was a longtime anchor at NBC News and host on MSNBC who left the network in 2021.
He anchored Amazon’s election night special earlier this month, the tech giant’s first foray into live news.
While Williams is no stranger to criticism himself, even some detractors acknowledged that his comments encapsulate the key reasons behind the Democratic Party’s recent struggles.
