Democrat Drops Out Of Senate Race To Challenge House ‘Squad’ Member

-

On Monday, U.S. Senate candidate Wesley Bell (D) announced he is dropping out of the state's Senate race to challenge Rep. Cori Bush (D) in the House of Representatives.

While announcing the shift in campaigns, Bell, the St. Louis County prosecuting attorney, specifically called out Bush's response to the Israel-Hamas conflict. (RELATED: Fellow Democrat Rebukes Squad's Response To Ongoing Armed Conflict)

“Understand this unique place that we are with the world literally on fire,” Bell said at the news conference.  “I think that we need to make certain that we are providing that effective leadership, not only in our district but in D.C. and on the world stage.”

Bell, if he had stayed in the Senate race and won a Democrat primary, would have been seeking to unseat Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) in a state that has reliably leaned Republican in recent elections.

“So after thoughtful consideration in consultation with respected in community and in committed community and political leaders. I'm formally withdrawing as a candidate for the US Senate and announcing my candidacy for the Democratic nomination to the US House of Representatives from Missouri's first congressional district,” Bell said at the news conference.
