The Democratic National Committee is moving to invalidate the February election of gun control activist David Hogg and Pennsylvania state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta as DNC vice chairs, citing alleged procedural flaws. But Hogg is pushing back, claiming the challenge is politically motivated and linked to his plans to disrupt the Democratic establishment from within.
The DNC’s credentials committee voted 13-2, with three abstentions, to void the election results, advancing a resolution that, if passed by the full committee, would require the vice chair elections to be redone. The move has sparked a fresh round of infighting within the party, as Hogg accuses entrenched Democrats of targeting him for his outspoken efforts to reform the party’s leadership.
“It is impossible to ignore the broader context of my work to help reform the party, which loomed large over this vote,” Hogg said in a statement. “Too many leaders in the Democratic Party are asleep at the wheel.”
Hogg, 25, rose to national prominence as a survivor of the 2018 Parkland school shooting and has since become a vocal progressive activist. His political action committee, Leaders We Deserve, has pledged to spend $20 million in Democratic primaries to challenge older, more established lawmakers with younger, more progressive candidates. That mission has ruffled feathers among senior Democrats and may have contributed to the challenge to his DNC vice chair role.
The challenge originated from Kalyn Free, a losing candidate in the February vice chair race, who claimed the vote tabulation process was flawed. DNC Chair Ken Martin, who assumed leadership after the election, acknowledged the procedural error and expressed disappointment.
Despite the official reasoning, many see the effort as a thinly veiled political maneuver. Hogg has previously been reprimanded by party leaders for his stated plans of involvement in Democratic primaries while serving in a DNC leadership position, a role traditionally expected to remain neutral in intraparty contests.
Even outside the Democratic Party, reactions to the controversy are surfacing. Conservative influencer and pro-Trump operative Alex Bruesewitz issued a tongue-in-cheek statement, calling the move a “coup” and sarcastically praising Hogg for “inspiring countless Americans to align with the MAGA movement.”
“David Hogg’s activism has significantly bolstered support for President Trump,” Bruesewitz said. “His influence as a skilled operative has been invaluable.”
As the resolution heads to the full DNC for a final vote, the episode underscores deeper divisions within the Democratic Party—between a rising progressive generation eager to challenge the status quo, and institutional forces resistant to rapid change. Whether Hogg’s election stands or not, the broader fight for the soul and direction of the party is far from over.

Boss Hogg is NOT a “$urvivor” of the Parkland shooting. He was not at school that day, but attached himself to the incident after the fact. He is a false hero. Do not censor this.
Biggest lie of all. Hogg was not at school when the shootings happened. How convenient that the old news has been rewritten for this little monster then and now lying! Dimwits must think this nation has a real short memory but at least they are trying to dump this liar then and now! His name apptly applies as well. Hogg is a hog for the limelight and a remarkable liar as he is still riding the school survivor line of lies. What a leader for the losing DNC this monster is gonna be. And him raising millions shows how dumb the donors are!
What? No! Keep David Hogg as your spokesperson!
He fits right in.
It’s so amusing to watch the dim wits scram about the election results within their party. while claiming there are never any problems with public elections. Ah yes, the party of institutional hypocrisy.
