“Fox & Friends” co-hosts Steve Doocy, Brian Kilmeade and Rachel Campos-Duffy sparred on their in-studio couch this morning over President Joe Biden’s divisive “soul of the nation” address last night in Philadelphia.
Biden’s politically-charged speech — in front of the building where the U.S. Constitution was adopted — warned of the alleged threat to democracy from the MAGA movement.

The current president’s fierce aim at Trump’s so-called “extremist” supporters sets up the midterm elections as a proxy war between Biden and Trump. Reaction from Republicans who support Trump was equally fierce. However, concerns over Trump’s handling of classified documents have led to some disagreement between Doocy and his Trumpier hosts on the Fox News set. Those differences boiled over into an uncomfortable argument following Doocy’s remarks this morning that not all Republicans are MAGA Republicans.
As Mediaite reports:
Doocy noted that Biden’s speech was designed to rally his political base just two months before the coming Midterm elections. “So what he is doing is talking about MAGA Republicans,” Doocy said. “Not all Republicans were MAGA just like not all Democrats, you know, love the squad. So, there are different factions within the Republican party. Focusing on the people who fall in line with Donald Trump…”
Rachel Campos-Duffy did not take kindly to that rather innocuous comment and fervently interrupted saying she “would say the vast majority of Republicans are probably MAGA Republicans. There is the smallest sliver of people who agree with Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger. I think really he is insulting millions of people who want to, and then he said…”
Brian Kilmeade interrupted, adding, “but the squad is extremist, and MAGA is not extremist. January 6th is an aberration.”
The roughly two-minute exchange was a fascinating revelation of the ongoing fight for the soul of the Republican party, as well as Fox News itself.

Biden may have intended his speech to fire up his progressive base, but the harder he works to appease them, the more he alienates the few moderate Democrats and the independants. His speech basically writes off any conservative, MAGA or otherwise, and in reality may actually backfire to motivate conservative voters even more.
