A new Gallup survey released on Wednesday shows that former President Donald Trump’s favorability rating has increased by 5 percentage points over the past month. The poll, conducted between Sept. 3 and Sept. 15 among 1,007 registered voters, indicates that Trump’s favorability has rebounded to 46%, up from 41% in August, matching levels last seen in June.
While both Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris have net unfavorable ratings, Trump’s standing has improved relative to Harris. Trump is viewed favorably by 46% of respondents and unfavorably by 53%, while Harris is viewed favorably by 44% and unfavorably by 54%.
Among independent voters, Harris faces even greater challenges. According to Mediaite, only 35% of independents view Harris favorably, compared to 60% who view her unfavorably, leaving her 25 points underwater. The Democratic nominee trails Trump by nine points among this crucial demographic.
Harris’ favorability has dropped 3 percentage points since assuming the Democratic nomination following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race, falling from 47% to 44%.
However, Mediaite also noted a potential bright spot for the Harris campaign: her running mate, Tim Walz, is viewed significantly more favorably than Trump’s running mate, J.D. Vance:
While the results should not come as welcome news to the Harris campaign, there is a silver lining. Harris’s running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, is much more popular than Trump’s, Senator JD Vance (R-OH). Vance is underwater by 11 points with all respondents (36%-47%) and 18 points with independents. Walz, on the other hand, has a positive favorable rating with the former group (41%-40%) and is close to having the same with independents (37%-40%).
Gallup’s survey has a margin of error of 4 percentage points with a 95% confidence level.
