Isra Hirsi, daughter of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and a rising figure in the far-left movement, ignited a firestorm this week after endorsing the violent anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles and drawing direct parallels between American immigration enforcement and Israel’s actions in Gaza.
In a viral Instagram story, Hirsi declared: “From L.A. to Rafah, there is one common oppressor — Death to the colonial empire. Life for our children.” The message came as protesters clashed with law enforcement in downtown Los Angeles following a series of ICE operations in the city. Demonstrators torched vehicles, vandalized federal buildings, and chanted pro-Hamas slogans — many waving Palestinian flags and calling for “intifada” on U.S. soil.
Hirsi’s framing of ICE and the Israeli government as arms of a single “colonial empire” to be violently dismantled drew swift condemnation from critics who saw her remarks as glorifying political violence and promoting insurrectionary rhetoric.
For these activists, ICE, the NYPD, and even the U.S. court system are seen not as institutions of public order, but as tools of an imperial system.
While this narrative resonates among militant protest groups, critics warn that such thinking blurs the line between protest and insurrection — and risks importing foreign conflicts into American streets.
Hirsi’s rhetoric comes amid her growing involvement in radical political activism. In March, she promoted a fundraising campaign for Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia University graduate arrested and facing deportation for his role in violent campus protests. Khalil, described by federal officials as a “Hamas sympathizer,” served as a senior organizer for Columbia’s Apartheid Divest campaign — a group that openly called for the “total eradication of Western civilization.”
The fundraiser surpassed $570,000, with much of the funding promoted through left-wing activist networks including Hirsi’s own social media accounts.
Hirsi herself was suspended from Barnard College earlier this year after helping organize the unauthorized “Gaza Solidarity Encampment,” which was forcibly cleared by NYPD officers in April.
Rep. Ilhan Omar, a member of the far-left “Squad” and a vocal critic of both U.S. border enforcement and Israeli policy, responded to her daughter’s suspension with a show of support. “I am enormously proud of my daughter @israhirsi. She has always led with courage and compassion, from organizing a statewide school walk out on the 20th anniversary of Columbine at the age of 15, to leading the biggest youth climate rally at our nation’s Capitol at 16, and now pushing her school to stand against genocide. Stepping up to change what you can’t tolerate is why we as a country have the right to speech, assembly, and petition enshrined in our constitution,” Omar said at the time.

How sad! Our country has always opened its doors to people from all over the world. Our government (taxpayers) helps them with free medical assistance, free housing, food stamps, and free schooling. These immigrants flourish under our form of government. And, then, when they are stronger, they criticize the government who assisted them in their needs. They fight against our form of government with the intent to convert it into the same form of government that they escaped from. And, I say, get rid of these people. Return them to their own natal country. Let’s clean up our society from the waste. Let’s return to freedom, democracy, and peace.
