Vice President Kamala Harris is facing allegations of plagiarism after reports surfaced suggesting that her 2009 book, Smart on Crime, contains multiple sections copied from external sources without proper attribution.
Conservative journalist Christopher Rufo and Austrian plagiarism expert Stefan Weber have both raised concerns about the content of the book, which Harris co-authored with Joan O’C. Hamilton. According to Rufo, who analyzed Weber’s findings, at least a dozen sections in the book appear to be lifted from other texts, including Wikipedia, without citation.

Weber, renowned for exposing plagiarism among European public figures, identified 27 instances of plagiarism in Harris’ book. He claimed that “24 fragments are plagiarism from other authors, and 3 fragments are self-plagiarism from a previous work.” One specific example includes a passage from Smart on Crime that closely mirrors a 2008 Wikipedia entry on New York City’s Midtown Community Court.
The allegations have prompted reactions on social media, with Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) openly mocking Harris. “Lmao Kamala didn’t even write her own book!” Vance posted on the platform X. In a follow-up post, Vance added, “I wrote my own book, unlike Kamala Harris, who copied hers from Wikipedia.”
Rufo has continued to share findings from Weber’s analysis, noting that the similarities between the plagiarized sections and their sources are comparable to those that led to the resignation of former Harvard president Claudine Gay. Gay stepped down after numerous cases of plagiarism were found in her academic work.
EXCLUSIVE: This is another instance of verbatim plagiarism by Kamala Harris, which we had provided to the New York Times over the weekend—and which the Times refused to acknowledge in its report today.

In another example from Harris’ book, Rufo highlighted a passage that replicates Wikipedia’s description of a report, ultimately leading to what he described as “unsupported claims.” At the time the alleged copying took place, Wikipedia was not considered a reliable academic source due to its open-editing structure.
In addition to these concerns, Harris’ book has drawn attention for including an anecdote that bears a striking resemblance to a well-known story told by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Harris recounts a childhood moment where, as a toddler, she demanded “fweedom” while fussing with her mother. This story echoes King’s narrative of a young girl in Birmingham who famously told a police officer she wanted “fee-dom” during a civil rights demonstration.
Sen. Vance capped off his critique with a sarcastic tweet, writing: “Cue the corporate media fact-checkers: ‘Vance’s tweet is missing important context. Kamala Harris only copied some of her book from Wikipedia.’”

only copied some? that is PLAGIARISM, REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH OR HOW LITTLE THIS WOMAN COPIED. SHE IS A LIAR. CAUGHT EVERY TIME. NO WONDER SHE PICKED STOLEN VALOR TAMPON TIM AWALZ AS HER RUNNING MATE. THEY BOTH COME FROM THE SAME CLOTH. LIARS.
She does not have enough smarts or brains to think of anything herself. Just like the Border, she is copying some of Trumps policies and trying to cover them up to make people think they are her ideas, I wouldn’t vote the worthless POS if they paid me a couple hundred thousand dollars, Ruining this Country is not worth the money, because that is exactly what she is doing to this Country.
