American Greatness/TIPP surveyed 1,001 Michigan voters to determine how they felt about how their conditions had changed under the Biden-Harris administration versus the Trump-Pence administration, and the results were great news for the former Republican president.
The New York Post reports:
The vast majority of respondents said they were worse off than they were four years ago during Donald Trump's presidency, when the Republican was dealing with pressures created by an unprecedented pandemic.
The rot extends even to Democratic perceptions of their president's economy. Just 50% of them say things are better now than they were under Trump, while 39% say they'd rather have the Republicans' economy back.
The former president's return to the White House very well may hinge on his ability to make a modern version of the Bill Clinton-James Carville “It's the Economy, Stupid” strategy, given the topline of this poll shows Harris is up 48% to 46% in a two-way race — well within the margin of error.
They went on to break down the results among different demographics.
53% of self-described liberals argue things are better than they were in Trump's last year, with 40% saying they're worse.
Only 31% of suburban voters reported feeling better off in 2024 than they were in 2020, while 61% disagreed with the sentiment. In cities, the figures weren't much better news for the Democrats, with 35% saying that their lives had improved versus 56% expressing their lives had become worse.
Outside of partisan affiliation, the most pronounced differences were along racial and gender lines, with just 29% of white men reporting they were better off in 2024 than in 2020, with 66% saying they're doing worse. Surprisingly, Harris is doing even worse with white women than she is with white men, with a measly 21% of white women asserting they're better off, and an overwhelming 71% asserting the opposite.
45% of black voters in the Great Lake State say their condition has improved since Joe Biden and Kamala Harris took office, while 44% insist their condition either hasn't improved or has deteriorated.
1 in 4 women thought they were better off financially under Biden, with marital status showing a slight difference in data. 27% of single women believe they are better off than they were under Trump, with 66% saying the opposite. Harris's odds among Married Michiganders were even worse, with only 22% of them reporting they were better off, and 69% reporting otherwise.
Michigan men were more likely to report economic improvements, but it was only a small improvement with one third of them saying they were better off under Biden versus 60% who believe things were better in 2020.
Apparently, taxpayers vs. tax consumers (and swamp). I hope that state has more taxpayers.
