South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham is showing signs of serious political vulnerability as a new poll reveals a majority of Republican primary voters in his home state would vote against him if the election were held today.
The poll, commissioned by the Lynch for Senate campaign and conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, found that 57 percent of likely Republican primary voters in South Carolina say they would not support Graham’s re-election bid, signaling trouble ahead for the veteran lawmaker who has held his seat since 2003.
When pitted directly against Mark Lynch, a businessman and political outsider who announced his candidacy earlier this year, Graham failed to secure majority support. In a head-to-head matchup, 43 percent said they would back Graham, while 29 percent favored Lynch. However, a decisive 23 percent remain undecided, creating a volatile environment that could swing the race in Lynch’s favor with effective campaigning.
The poll, conducted from May 15 to 21 with 1,062 likely voters, further revealed that only 37 percent of respondents said they would support Graham after being presented with his voting record. Another 28 percent remained unsure, suggesting Graham’s support is soft even among his base.
The broader findings reflect growing dissatisfaction among GOP voters with establishment figures and career politicians. A striking 60 percent of Republican primary voters said they believe a successful businessman would make a better political leader than a career politician — a data point that plays directly into Lynch’s outsider campaign narrative. Only 20 percent supported the idea that a career politician is preferable.
Lynch, the president and owner of Jeff Lynch Appliance Center in Greenville, has positioned himself as a staunch ally of President Donald Trump and the “America First” agenda. In a statement accompanying the release of the poll, he argued that Trump “needs politicians around him he can trust” to advance his policies in Washington.
“At a time when the career politicians in D.C. are digging in their heels… Trump needs all the allies he can get in the U.S. Senate and U.S. House,” Lynch said. He went on to criticize Graham for what he described as disloyalty to the Trump movement.
“Lindsey Graham voted against codifying Trump’s and Elon’s DOGE reforms. He’s working behind the scenes to scuttle Trump’s nominees. He just recently voted to send more cash to Ukraine with USAID, and Lindsey even pushed budget legislation Trump publicly opposes,” Lynch claimed.
Graham, for his part, has consistently portrayed himself as a committed supporter of President Trump, highlighting his March 2025 endorsement by the president as proof of his alignment with the MAGA agenda. Yet, skepticism among GOP voters suggests that endorsements alone may no longer be enough in a shifting Republican landscape that increasingly values ideological purity and outsider credentials over tenure.
With nearly a quarter of voters undecided and significant discontent with Graham’s record, the South Carolina Republican primary is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched Senate races of the 2026 cycle. If these numbers hold — or worsen for Graham — the veteran senator may be facing the most serious threat to his seat in decades.
