Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent acknowledged Wednesday that he threatened to “kick ass” during a heated confrontation last year, while firmly denying reports that he threatened to punch the now-acting Director of National Intelligence “in the face.”

The unusual exchange emerged during a Senate Finance Committee hearing, where Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) pressed Bessent about reports surrounding a confrontation between the two Trump administration officials during the summer of 2025.

According to Bessent, one key detail in the widely circulated account was inaccurate.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., a prominent Trump loyalist, revealed this week that she no longer supports the One Big Beautiful Bill Act—the sweeping GOP-backed legislation she voted for just two weeks ago. Greene’s opposition centers on a provision limiting states’ ability to regulate artificial intelligence (AI) for a full decade.

The provision bars states and their subdivisions from enforcing any laws that “limit, restrict, or otherwise regulate artificial intelligence models, artificial intelligence systems, or automated decision systems entered into interstate commerce” during that period.

Greene admitted on social media platform X that she was unaware of this section buried deep in the bill’s 278-279 pages. “Full transparency, I did not know about this section… I am adamantly OPPOSED to this, and it is a violation of state rights,” she wrote. She vowed to oppose the bill if the AI restrictions remain when it returns from the Senate.

Greene joins a growing chorus of Republican lawmakers, including Rep. Scott Perry, R-Pa., who have publicly expressed reservations about the bill after initially supporting it. Perry echoed criticism recently voiced by Elon Musk, calling out House leadership and calling for significant improvements before the bill returns from the Senate.

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act narrowly passed the House after intense, late-night negotiations and is a cornerstone of President Donald Trump’s legislative agenda. It promises border security enhancements, tax cuts, and increased American energy production. Yet, its future remains uncertain as Senate Republicans signal dissatisfaction with its current form.

Musk, who recently ended his stint as a “special government employee” overseeing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), unleashed a scathing critique of the bill, describing it as a “massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill” and an “abomination” that betrays conservative principles.

He also seemed to issue a thinly veiled warning to lawmakers who voted for the legislation, hinting at supporting primary challengers against them in the 2026 midterm elections.

Despite this, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended the bill and dismissed questions about any fallout between Trump and Musk, insisting the president remains firmly behind the legislation.

Greene’s reversal on the bill underscores the difficulties Trump and House GOP leadership face in keeping their coalition united on complex, high-stakes legislation. As the bill moves to the Senate, significant changes are expected amid mounting scrutiny from lawmakers, conservative activists, and influential figures like Musk.

When questioned by reporters about where the two stood ahead of an Oval Office meeting with a German chancellor, President Trump said, “Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore. He hasn’t said bad about me personally, but I’m sure that’ll be next. But I’m very disappointed … I’ve helped Elon a lot.”

Readers should note that this quote came before Elon said that Trump owed him his reelection and made the claim that Trump was on the Epstein list.

The mantra in the past was to pass individual bills on specific topics to prevent slipping in junk. I think the Trump presidency is a badly needed change. However, I do not know why he would accept the big beautiful bill with all the crap Congress always inserts in these Omnibus bill – Republicans are not better than the Dems. Further, I am concerned with what appears to be running the Gov via EO’s. I do not object to any of the EO’s the President has signed, as I understand they are the only leverage he has available. Just do not think it is good policy to run the Gov via EO”s. I am a big fan of both Elon and the President. I want them on the same side. Elon is probably right about the big and beautiful, just wish he was more diplomatic about it. Here is hoping the attempt to “Rescind” works. If not, all Elon’s work will be for nothing.
