The House of Representatives on Wednesday approved a war powers resolution aimed at ending unauthorized U.S. military involvement in Iran, marking the most significant congressional challenge yet to President Donald Trump’s handling of the conflict.

The measure, sponsored by Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) invokes the 1973 War Powers Resolution and would require the administration to obtain explicit authorization from Congress before continuing hostilities against Iran, except in cases involving an imminent threat to the United States. The vote followed months of growing bipartisan concern over a conflict that began in.

The Republican Party of Minnesota just sent a message loud and clear: if you abandon your job, there will be consequences. In an unprecedented move, the Minnesota GOP has launched recall petitions against 29 Democrat state representatives after their outrageous three-week boycott at the start of the 2025 legislative session.

This bold maneuver marks the largest single increase in state legislative recall attempts in U.S. history, proving that Republicans are done playing nice while Democrats rig the system to maintain power.

Democrats’ Legislative Tantrum Backfires

The whole debacle started when House Democrats, reeling from their 2024 election losses, refused to show up for work on Jan. 14, 2025. Their goal? To block Republicans from exercising their temporary one-seat majority and stall the legislative process.

Ballotpedia explains:

Democrats lost their House majority in the 2024 elections after Republicans gained three seats, resulting in a 67-67 split chamber. As we mentioned in the Jan. 15 and Jan. 24 editions of The Brew, a vacancy in District 40B created a temporary 67-66 Republican majority at the start of the 2025 session.

Because a 68-member quorum is required for the House to conduct business, Democrats boycotted the beginning of the session, preventing the Republican majority from establishing chamber control. Because members would usually be sworn in at the start of the session, Democrats swore in their members at a private, off-site ceremony.

For three weeks, they held the state hostage, violating their oath of office and refusing to do the jobs they were elected to perform. It wasn’t until Feb. 5, 2025, that Democrats finally caved and struck a power-sharing agreement with Republicans, allowing the session to resume. But for the GOP, the damage was done—and now it’s payback time.

The Power-Sharing Deal: A Win for Republicans?

The deal includes several key provisions:

GOP Control of the Speakership – Republican Lisa Demuth was elected speaker for the full term, making history as the first person of color to hold the role in Minnesota.

Republican-Controlled Committees – While the GOP holds a temporary 67-66 majority, they have full control over committees—including a new anti-fraud committee dedicated to rooting out waste in government programs.

Speaker’s Powers Checked – The agreement imposes checks on the speaker’s traditionally broad powers. Notably, both parties must concur on significant decisions, such as which bills advance to the floor for debate, preventing unilateral action.

Tabke’s Job Protected – Democrats secured assurances that Republicans will not attempt to unseat Democratic Representative Brad Tabke, who was reelected by 14 votes in a closely contested suburban Minneapolis race.

But Republicans aren’t stopping there. Despite the deal, Democrats still must answer for their three-week dereliction of duty.

“There Have to Be Consequences” – GOP Takes Action

Republicans argue that refusing to show up for work for three weeks is not just unethical—it’s malfeasance, an explicit reason for recall under Minnesota law.

“When they don’t show up for work and they’re playing a game, there has to be consequences for that,” said State GOP Chair Alex Plechash. And he’s right. If any ordinary American refused to show up for work for weeks, they’d be fired. Why should politicians be any different?

Here’s how the recall process works:

📌 The Minnesota GOP files recall petitions citing malfeasance or nonfeasance.

📌 The petitions go to Democrat Secretary of State Steve Simon, who then passes them to the Minnesota Supreme Court for review.

📌 If the court approves, supporters have 90 days to collect thousands of signatures—equal to 25% of the votes cast in the last election for each seat—to trigger a recall election.

Can Recalls Prevail? History Suggest Yes, If Approved

Democrats and their allies in the media are already downplaying the effort, pointing to Minnesota’s historically high bar for recall elections. But if these petitions make it through the court, history is on the GOP’s side.

🚨 Since 2011, over 63% of recall votes nationwide have resulted in removal.

🚨 Another 6% of targeted officials resigned before the vote even took place.

Democrats may have bet wrong, assuming affable Minnesotans would tolerate their obstruction. Now, Republicans are taking the fight to them—and they just might win.

It is about time the rebellious Democrats have consequences to their shameful behavior and I am so happy President Trump is doing what is necessary to get this country in order

A very big question wasn’t answered. If there are 67 Democrats, why are only 29 being recalled?
