California Governor Gavin Newsom found himself at the center of controversy this week after a viral incident captured on camera, in which he appeared to evade an irate Los Angeles resident by pretending to be on a phone call with President Joe Biden. The moment unfolded during the ongoing wildfires in the Los Angeles area, which have devastated local communities, especially the affluent Pacific Palisades.
The confrontation began when an unidentified woman, later named as Rachel Darvish, approached Newsom, visibly frustrated with the response to the wildfires and the lack of resources such as water for fire hydrants. In the video, Darvish can be heard shouting at the governor, “Governor, you got a second? Governor! I live here, governor! That was my daughter’s school, governor!”
Newsom, who had been walking away from the woman, quickly responded, saying, “I’m literally talking to the president right now,” as he pointed to his phone. “To specifically answer the question of what we can do for you and your daughter.” Newsom claimed to be in the middle of a conversation with President Biden to address the concerns of the outraged resident, but the altercation took a turn when Darvish, clearly skeptical, asked to hear the call.
When Darvish asked to listen in on the phone call, Newsom’s story began to unravel. “Can I hear it? Can I hear your call? Because I don’t believe it,” she demanded. Newsom hesitated, then changed his narrative, claiming, “I’m sorry, there’s literally– I’ve tried five times, that’s why I’m walking around to make the call.”
The woman, growing more incredulous, fired back, “Why is the president not taking your call?” Newsom then explained that the call was not going through, adding, “That’s why I have to get cell service.”
Despite Newsom’s repeated insistence that he was trying to contact the president, Darvish continued to press him, asking to witness the phone call firsthand. “So let’s get it. Let’s get it. I want to be here when you call the president,” she insisted.
Newsom, realizing he was no longer convincing the woman, shifted his response: “I appreciate it. I’m doing it right now and it’s to immediately get reimbursements, individual assistance, and to help you. I’m devastated for you. I’m so sorry, especially for your daughter.”
Darvish’s frustration continued to grow as she questioned why the fire hydrants were not properly supplied with water, leaving firefighters struggling to contain the flames. Newsom responded by telling her that he was making the call to address the issues at hand. Finally, the governor, seemingly unable to resolve the situation, retreated to his car and left the scene.
The incident quickly gained traction on social media, with many viewers accusing Newsom of trying to deceive the resident and avoid accountability for his handling of the wildfire response.
Rachel Darvish later joined Fox News host Jesse Watters on Jesse Watters Primetime to share her side of the story, expressing her anger over the governor’s lack of action during such a critical time. Darvish also appeared on Fox & Friends First and NewsNation to discuss her evacuation from the Pacific Palisades and the chaotic situation that unfolded as the fires spread. During these interviews, she criticized both Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass for their handling of the disaster, particularly for their failure to ensure adequate firefighting resources.
As for Newsom, the incident has raised questions about his leadership during the crisis. Critics have accused him of prioritizing political optics over the immediate needs of those affected by the fires, while others have pointed to his attempts to deflect responsibility during the confrontation as evidence of a lack of transparency.

This lady should understand that as a “career” Liberal Politician, Newsom will always LIE, that’s how he has risen to his present position!
That’s what “Cowards” do, they run away.
How do spell gavin’s last name?

Amazing how the Democrat standard default is to lie. Even if it’s obviously a lie that is their response. If you think they are telling you the truth then keep voting for them but is obvious they are anti America and controlled by their ideology, not common sense. They are based on an illusion, not on reality.
