Republican lawmakers in one state capitol are on the cusp of a decisive victory.
According to multiple reports, lawmakers in the North Carolina House of Representatives say one Democrat is preparing to jump ship and change their party affiliation to Republican.
The move would give the GOP a veto-proof majority in North Carolina General Assembly, eliminating any need to compromise with Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper.
Axios has more on the expected change from Rep. Tricia Cotham, D-Charlotte:
The move would cement Republicans’ toe-hold in a fast-changing swing state, handing them a veto-proof majority in the middle of the legislative session and a clear runway to enact their agenda despite opposition from Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper.
Cotham is expected to announce her decision Wednesday.

A supermajority could free up party leaders to more easily push long-hoped-for legislation restricting abortion and all but eliminate their need to compromise with the governor on the budget, changes to election laws and education reform.
Cotham hasn’t responded to requests for comment, but that didn’t stop Axios from speculating what brought about her decision:
One possible factor, though, is that Cotham recently skipped a vote to override Cooper’s veto of Republican-sponsored legislation relaxing some gun laws, handing Republicans the votes they needed to usher the bill into law.

I’ll be glad for the ability of the Republicans to be veto-proof if they’ll go ahead and get busy correcting some of the very screwed-up things that have occurred here in my home state of North Carolina!!!!
