Former Vice President Mike Pence has endorsed Karrin Taylor Robson in the Republican primary for governor of Arizona.
The endorsement puts Pence at odds with former President Donald Trump, who has endorsed Kari Lake in the race.
Robson announced Pence’s endorsement of her campaign this morning.
Robson has also been endorsed by Arizona’s outgoing term-limited Republican governor, Doug Ducey.
The Center Square shared polling data last week that showed Lake with a slight lead over Robson, just a few days after Ducey’s endorsement.
Although Lake, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump, is leading in the poll, Robson is within striking distance. Lake earned 39% support of those surveyed while Robson received 35.3%. The poll found that 19.2% still considered themselves undecided in the race.
For Robson, it has been a meteoric rise in the polls. In the April HighGround poll, she trailed Lake by nearly 20 points (30.3% to 9.5%). Robson apparently has been aided by former U.S. Rep. Matt Salmon’s decision to drop out of the race and endorse her.
The closely watched primary will take place on August 2, and the results in races for governor and U.S. Senate will have national implications.

The only reason Pence endorsed her is because Trump had endorsed Lake who will be a great Governor I and I believe she will fight to get back border security.

As an AZ native, older than 60 years, I have watched Kari on the news for a long time. Highly respected. The current governor is a RINO as is pence. And so is the gal running for gov that they are backing. Really, a developer? We true Arizonans don’t particularly care for those like her who have tried their hardest to turn our great state into an overcrowded garbage dump! I vote for Kari!
Pence is testing the waters for a presidential run. Pence wants to see just how much political clout he has. Pence shouldn’t test too much. If it isn’t Trump, it certainly won’t be Pence. Just exactly what accomplishments as VP can Pence lay claim to?
