Report: High-Profile Republican Senator Will Not Seek 2024 Presidency

-

Mere hours before Election Day and people are already focused on the road to the White House.

As anticipation continues to build over which conservatives will take the plunge in pursuit of the 2024 Republican nomination one high-profile Senator says you can count him out of the running.

Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton informed Politico that despite rumors he will not be running for president in 2024.

Cotton, who previously served in Iraq and Afghanistan, has reportedly been reaching out to donors, supporters, and senior Republicans to notify them of his decision. The Republican said his family was the primary factor in his decision, noting that a national campaign would pull him away from his two sons, ages five and seven. However, according to Politico Cotton made it clear he is open to serving in a future Republican administration.

Cotton's decision came as a shock considering he has spent the last months campaigning across the country, slowly but surely building his national profile. The senator was seen traveling to Iowa and New Hampshire, which host the party's first two presidential nominating contests. He also raised an impressive $8 million that could have seeded a presidential campaign account.

If Cotton has opted to run for president he could have potentially faced a crowded primary field of challengers.

Advisers close to former President Donald Trump have indicated he may announce his own presidential campaign as soon as November 14th. During recent rallies, Trump has been shifting his language to indicate his 2024 plans.

At a rally in Robstown, Texas, on Oct. 22, Trump slightly altered his messaging, saying he will “probably have to do it again,” in what advisers close to him tell Fox News Digital is a “clear sign” of his plans.

“I ran twice,” Trump said. “And now in order to make our country successful, safe and glorious again, I will probably have to do it again.”

However, some Republicans say it's time for the GOP to move away from Trump. Most identify Governor Ron DeSantis as the favorite to win the Republican nomination if Trump doesn't run while some say the Governor stands a solid chance of directly taking on Trump.

Reports have indicated growing tension between Trump and DeSantis camps for months now but Trump's actions over the weekend may have thrown the feud out into the open.

During a Pennsylvania rally over the weekend, Trump awarded DeSantis a new nickname, “Ron DeSanctimonious.” (RELATED: Trump Jabs DeSantis With New Nickname Hours Before Election Day)

“We're winning big in the for the nomination like nobody's ever seen before,” Trump told the crowd before listing other Republicans who could potentially challenge him in 2024.

“There it is, Trump at 71 percent, Ron DeSanctimonious at 10%,” Trump told the crowd while reading approval numbers of various Republicans.

Recently, Republican mega-donor Ken Griffin told reporters with Politico that he believes it's time for the GOP to move away from Trump. Griffin spent more than $60 million to support Republican candidates in 2020 and has a reputation for supporting conservative candidates and causes.

“He did a lot of things really well and missed the mark on some important areas. And for a litany of reasons, I think it's time to move on to the next generation,” Griffin said of Trump to Politico.

  1. The best thing Trump can do for the republicans is to keep his big mouth shut and then announce that he will NOT run again in 2024. If he runs he will undo all the gains the republicans will have made this election cycle. The hate Trump feelings are wide and deep across this country, and he could cause the GOP to even lose this election.

  2. I agree. While Trump might have the ability to reignite the conservative base in this country, he still faces a mounting challenge dealing with the “Never Trump” segment of the population. Many people are weary at the prospect of another 4 years of constant plots to undermine Trump’s agenda. Including the failed attempts to impeach. It’s too much. 😩
