Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Ak.) said on Thursday she won’t support Pete Hegseth to be President Donald Trump’s secretary of Defense.
“Given the global security environment we’re operating in, it is critical that we confirm a Secretary of Defense, however, I regret that I am unable to support Mr. Hegseth,” she concluded in a lengthy statement posted to X.
In her reasoning, Murkowski cited infidelity, “allegations of sexual assault and excessive drinking” and Hegseth’s previous comments on women serving in the military.
The behaviors that he has admitted to, she said, show “a lack of judgment that is unbecoming of someone who would lead our armed forces.”
Pete Hegseth, a longtime Fox News personality and the president-elect’s nominee for secretary of Defense, has faced significant hurdles in his Senate confirmation process. Allegations concerning his personal conduct and workplace behavior have raised serious concerns.
While Hegseth has admitted to past infidelity, he has denied claims of excessive drinking and sexual assault.
Hegseth, known for his tenure as co-host of Fox & Friends Weekend, has been linked to troubling accusations, including an investigation into an alleged sexual assault. A recent New Yorker exposé by Jane Mayer detailed further allegations, painting a troubling picture of Hegseth’s time overseeing a veterans’ advocacy group. Reports include claims of drunken behavior, as well as alleged financial and sexual misconduct while on the job, adding to public scrutiny.
Adding to the controversy, a personal email from 2018 has resurfaced, written by Hegseth’s mother during a particularly fraught period in his life. In the email, she accused her son of mistreating women and lacking integrity. “I have no respect for any man that belittles, lies, cheats, sleeps around, and uses women for his own power and ego. You are that man (and have been for years), and as your mother, it pains me and embarrasses me to say that, but it is the sad, sad truth.”
However, in a later interview with The New York Times, Mrs. Hegseth retracted those statements, calling the email an emotional response during a difficult time in her son’s divorce. She defended Hegseth’s character, calling him “a good father and husband” and criticized the publication of the email as “disgusting.”

I am thankful for REAL Republicans like Lisa Murkowski. Character counts in cabinet member selections, and Hegseth is morally unacceptable.
Lisa Murkowski owes her senatorial seat to the Democratic Party. She was appointed initially to complete the term of her late father. In the Republican primary in Alaska of 2010 she was defeated by a Tea Party candidate. Rather than submit to the will of that primary she ran in the general election as an independent. She only retained the seat by democrats ignoring their own chosen candidate and crossing over to keep a Tea Party candidate from gaining that seat. She is the epitome of a RINO.
Tell Murkowski and other RHINOs to get out of the way, or they’ll find themselves unemployed by the time of the next election, or else legitimately changing their call sign to Democrat!
Lisa, if you care anything about the safety of our country, you will put aside the petty greiveances you have, and get on with the business of confirming him. Could you do better in that position? Probably not. What about all the other “ cheaters” “ drunkards” and nasty people who are in our government offices? Are you so lily white that you can point fingers? Think about that! Do your job madam!

Regardless of any pros or cons regarding Pete Hegseth you may have, remember that in 2008 (year ?) it was Sen. Lisa Murkowski who had a bill that had taken a considerable amount of time and effort to create to take immediate action to pass legislation that would protect our electrical grid from an EMP attack thrown out in favor of a bill to protect TREES in her home state.
So Murkowski thinks it’s more important to protect trees in one state than to protect the lives of our 330 million citizens!!
Lisa Murkowsky is a RINO., Next election coming and she sill be defeated, unless she bys the votes as she has done before. She is horrible!

I expected Murkowski and Collins to reject Hegseth. They are not nor have they ever been team players and their excuses are lame. This is normal for them. Maybe they should declare they are Independents or Democraps.

Murkowski is one of the reasons that I can not be a Republican Supporter. Romney and O’Connell are two of the rest of the RINOs in the GOP that I can not support. I am a Republican only because I support President Donald Trump. The three mentioned should “cross the aisle” Stop taking a true GOP’s place.
Murkowski has always been a RINO. Time to get her primaried? Who pulls the purse strings for Republicans in the Senate? Support a replacement for her instead
