Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is recovering in a New Hampshire hospital after sustaining multiple injuries in a serious car accident on Saturday, according to a statement from his security team.
Michael Ragusa, head of Giuliani’s security detail, confirmed the 80-year-old was “struck from behind at high speed” while traveling on a highway, shortly after assisting a woman who had flagged him down claiming to be the victim of a domestic violence incident.
“Mayor Giuliani immediately rendered assistance and contacted 911,” Ragusa stated. “He remained on scene until responding officers arrived to ensure her safety. Following this, while traveling on the highway, Mayor Giuliani’s vehicle was struck from behind at high speed.”
Giuliani was transported to a nearby trauma center, where doctors diagnosed him with a fractured thoracic vertebrae, multiple lacerations and contusions, and additional injuries to his left arm and lower leg. While the full extent of the injuries is still being evaluated, Ragusa said Giuliani is “in good spirits and recovering tremendously.”
Support and Prayers from Political Allies
The incident has drawn support from prominent Republican leaders. Figures like Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Michigan Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt posted on X sharing their well wishes and prayers.
Giuliani’s business partner and personal physician were reportedly contacted immediately and arrived at the hospital to oversee his care.
A Lifelong Reputation of Action
The former mayor, famously known as “America’s Mayor” for his leadership following the September 11 attacks, had been in New Hampshire for political engagements and meetings ahead of the 2026 election cycle. His quick response to assist a domestic violence victim prior to the crash underscores the reputation Giuliani has cultivated for decades — stepping into high-pressure situations with little hesitation.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have not yet released further details on the driver of the vehicle that hit Giuliani or whether charges are pending. It remains unclear whether the crash was caused by negligence, impairment, or another factor.
Giuliani, a former federal prosecutor and personal attorney to President Donald Trump, has remained a visible figure in American politics. His supporters praised his actions over the weekend as reflective of his character, noting that even at 80, Giuliani was quick to help a stranger in need.
More updates are expected as Giuliani’s medical team evaluates his condition and law enforcement investigates the crash.

My prayers to him. It also gives me hope that true Americans are still trying to do the right thing.
