Saturday, Sen. Time Scott (R-S.C.) announced his engagement on social media.
Rumors about Scott's love life garnered considerable attention during his presidential campaign.
Scott, 57, would have been the first president without a spouse in over 100 years. James Buchanan, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, was the only president in the history of the United States to remain a lifelong bachelor.
“As a guy who is mostly an introvert and on the quiet side, having to have a conversation about the engagement is a little, you know, uncomfortable in a way, but it's the most exciting thing I'll do with my life besides making Jesus my Lord,” Scott said in an interview with The Washington Post.
“I've been very patient and prayerful, and I'm really excited and somewhat nervous, and I couldn't be more thankful for having found a soul mate and someone who shares a lot of the same interests, passions and goals that I do,” he continued.
Scott proposed to Mindy Noce, a Charleston-area interior designer and mother of three, during a sunset stroll on South Carolina's Kiawah Island.
The couple met through their church's Bible study.
