Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, has reportedly narrowed his choices for a running mate to just three candidates, according to CNN’s Alayna Treene on Monday morning.
Treene mentioned that after viewing a video where Trump stated he had decided on his running mate but hadn’t revealed it yet, she believes his initial list has been significantly shortened.
“There’s a lot of buzz and anticipation about who Donald Trump will choose. He’s often mentioned knowing his pick, but from my discussions with Trump’s team, they haven’t made a final decision yet. What I do know is that he has narrowed it down to three main contenders: Doug Burgum, J.D. Vance, and Marco Rubio. These names seem to be at the top of his list,” Treene said.

“But of course, this is Donald Trump we’re talking about,” noted Treene, qualifying her reporting. “Whenever we try to predict who a candidate will pick for VP, it’s always a difficult task. It’s even harder with Donald Trump. And again, when I talk to his team, they say he is someone who changes his mind every day based on who he sees on TV, who he speaks with over the phone. And so until he formally makes his announcement, Donald Trump can change his mind up until the last minute.”
Trump’s original list included several members of Congress: Sens. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) as well as Reps. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) and Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.).
Former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson was also under consideration.
