Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent acknowledged Wednesday that he threatened to “kick ass” during a heated confrontation last year, while firmly denying reports that he threatened to punch the now-acting Director of National Intelligence “in the face.”

The unusual exchange emerged during a Senate Finance Committee hearing, where Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) pressed Bessent about reports surrounding a confrontation between the two Trump administration officials during the summer of 2025.

According to Bessent, one key detail in the widely circulated account was inaccurate.

President Donald Trump announced plans on Saturday night to meet with potential primary challengers to Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) following Tillis’ vote against advancing the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (OBBBA), a comprehensive tax and spending package central to Trump’s domestic agenda. In a statement, Trump emphasized his intention to find a candidate who will “properly represent the Great People of North Carolina and, so importantly, the United States of America.”

The “One Big Beautiful Bill” aims to extend the 2017 tax cuts, eliminate taxes on tips and overtime, and increase funding for border security, among other provisions. However, it also proposed significant cuts to programs like Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), leading to concerns among some Republican senators. Sen. Tillis cited potential negative impacts on North Carolina, particularly regarding funding for hospitals and rural areas, as reasons for his opposition.

The Hill has more on the latest developments, with Tillis becoming the third GOP senator to say “no” to Trump’s megabill:

Tillis’s strong opposition to the bill is a significant development because two other Republicans, Sens. Rand Paul (Ky.) and Ron Johnson (Wis.), have already said they will vote “no.”

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) can only afford three defections from his conference and still pass the bill with a tie-breaking vote from Vice President Vance given their 53-seat majority.

Both Sens. Paul and Johnson are alarmed by the bill’s potential to substantially increase the national debt. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that OBBBA could add between $2.4 trillion and $4.5 trillion to the debt over the next decade. Paul emphasized that raising the debt ceiling by such amounts contradicts conservative fiscal principles, stating, “Once Republicans vote for this, Republicans are going to own the deficit.”

The North Carolina Republican Party previously censured Tillis in 2023 for his support of bipartisan measures on gun control and same-sex marriage, highlighting his vulnerability to a primary challenge.

Several challengers have already entered the race. Attorney Don Brown and teacher’s assistant Andy Nilsson have both declared their candidacies for the 2026 Senate race.

Tillis holds one of only two U.S. Senate seats controlled by a Republican in a state that didn’t back Trump by double digits in 2024.

That distinction already makes North Carolina’s Senate race one of the top-tier battleground contests in next year’s midterm elections.

No matter how large or small the majority is republicans will never succeed until we weed out the backstabbers from our party. If they can’t be on the team they need to go. The bottom line is it is us that can change things. Primaries and elections have consequences. Some of these traitors need to be replaced.

Migrants (illegals) are here “illegally” so yes, they must be deported and re-enter using the proper protocol for becoming an immigrant if they so choose barring any criminal background.
Criminals whether legal or illegal must be tracked down and charged for there act if they are migrants, immigrants or US Citizens because criminals need to be captured and if US Citizens have their day in court or if illegal migrants removed from our country. The law must be enforced at all levels. The laws are straight forward and no illegals should be allowed to have any refuge in our country without being properly vetted.
