The widow of a slain Minnesota deputy has made it clear that neither she nor her late husband were fans of Governor Walz, and as a result, she forbade him from attending her husband’s funeral after finally accepting his call.

The widow of a sheriff’s deputy who was gunned down in the line of duty warned Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz he was not welcome at the funeral because of his treatment of cops — threatening to kick his “ass out” if he dared to show up.
Shannon Owen told Kamala Harris’ running mate that he was not welcome at the services for her husband, Josh Owen, an Iraq veteran and Pope County sheriff’s deputy who was shot and killed while working on his 44th birthday in April 2023.
Walz, who is now the Democrat’s vice presidential candidate, made several attempts to contact the widow, but she resisted as she knew her husband was not a fan of the new restrictions he’d put in place for police that he felt made officers’ jobs more dangerous.
She said, “I took the phone call. I didn’t say much. I just let him ramble because that is what politicians do.”
After letting him speak, she asked him about the funeral. “I said, ‘Are you planning on coming to the funeral’ and he said, ‘Of course I’d be honored to come’ and I said, ‘Well you’re not welcome’. And he’s like ‘Why is that?’ And I said ‘Because you defunded the police. You don’t even support the police, why would I want you to come?’”
She continued, “You have never been a supporter of the police and I’d just appreciate it if you just don’t come anywhere near my town.”
The widow then insisted that if Walz ignored her wishes and showed up anyway, she would “make sure that I escort your ass out of here.”
Walz responded, “I totally understand and respect your rights. Our officers are here to support you in any way you need,” before abruptly ending the call.
During the 2024 election season, Harris has has repeatedly attempted to brand herself as a “law and order” candidate, touting her prosecutorial background and citing an FBI report showing a decrease in crime (that the Bureau later revised, showing crime had actually increased). However, the public doesn’t seem to be buying what she’s selling. Notably, the largest police union in the country has endorsed former President Donald Trump, further emphasizing the disconnect between the administration’s rhetoric and the sentiments of those on the front lines of law enforcement.
The endorsement of Trump by the largest police union reflects a broader trend among law enforcement personnel disillusioned with the current administration. Many officers feel that the Biden-Harris ticket does not prioritize their needs or the challenges they face daily. Instead, they perceive a narrative that seeks to vilify law enforcement rather than support and empower them.
Despite Harris’s claims of being tough on crime, her prosecutorial record in California has drawn scrutiny and skepticism from many law enforcement professionals. Critics argue that her policies, particularly during her tenure as District Attorney of San Francisco, were more aligned with progressive reforms than with traditional law enforcement practices.
