Handyman claims that the actor was still driving and alert just before his death…

Recent developments have emerged regarding the deaths of two-time Academy Award-winning actor Gene Hackman and his wife, classically trained pianist Betsy Arakawa.

According to Page Six, Dr. Josiah Child, a physician at Cloudberry Health in Santa Fe, New Mexico, claims that Arakawa contacted his clinic on Feb. 12, 2025—one day after the supposed date of her death—which was reported as Feb. 11 due to complications from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a rat-borne respiratory disease.

“Mrs. Hackman didn’t die on Feb. 11 because she called my clinic on Feb. 12,” Dr. Child told the Daily Mail.

The primary care doctor shared that Arakawa had called his clinic a “couple of weeks before her death” to ask about getting a heart scan for her husband.

At the time, she was not a patient of Child’s, but she ended up scheduling an appointment for herself for Feb. 12.

“It was for something unrelated to anything respiratory,” Child confided in the British tabloid, adding that Arakawa called his office the morning of Feb. 12 after canceling a Feb. 10 appointment because Hackman was unwell

She “spoke to one of [my] doctors, who told her to come in that afternoon,” he added.

“We made her an appointment, but she never showed up,” the doctor continued. “She did not show any symptoms of respiratory distress. The appointment wasn’t for anything related to hantavirus. We tried calling her a couple of times with no reply.”

Page Six goes on to highlight:

The bombshell contradicts with the medical examiner’s previous estimation that Arakawa died on Feb. 11.

That afternoon, she was seen running errands at a local grocery store, a pharmacy and a pet shop near the couple’s Santa Fe home.

Child’s claims suggest that Arakawa may have been alive later than initially believed, prompting calls for authorities to reassess the timeline of events.

Hackman, 95, and Arakawa, 65, were found deceased in their Santa Fe mansion on Feb. 26. His death was estimated around Feb. 18, attributed to cardiovascular disease, compounded by advanced Alzheimer’s.

Moreover, while most sources suggest Hackman’s health was rapidly declining—with friends noting he had become home-bound in recent months—his longtime handyman claimed the actor was alert and active shortly before his passing, contradicting reports of advanced Alzheimer’s.

One of the couple’s dogs, Zinna, was also found dead, likely from dehydration and starvation. Investigations continue, but no foul play is suspected.
