Curtis Bashaw, New Jersey’s Republican Senate nominee, experienced a sudden medical episode during a live debate on Sunday night. The incident occurred mid-speech, causing immediate concern as Bashaw appeared to freeze on stage, prompting a swift response from those around him.
The first to react was his Democratic opponent, Rep. Andy Kim, who immediately approached Bashaw’s lectern, asking if he was alright. Approximately 20 seconds later, members of Bashaw’s campaign staff stepped in and escorted him off the stage for assistance.

Following a nine minute break, Bashaw returned to the debate stage to answer questions. He addressed reporters, acknowledging the situation and attempting to reassuring viewers of his condition.

After the debate, Bashaw took to social media to thank everyone for the well wishes.
“Thank you all for the well wishes!” he said in a tweet. “I was out campaigning all day, and I never stopped to get a bite to eat. Excited to eat pizza with my fantastic volunteers at the post-debate party tonight!”
