Syphilis Outbreak Reported In Houston, Cases Up 128% In Women

-

health officials are warning residents in the nation's fourth-largest city of a outbreak that has sent cases among women soaring.

The city's health department reports a 128% increase in cases, exacerbated by congenital syphilis – when a mother passes the infection to her baby during pregnancy.

Congenital syphilis can present life-threatening dangers to infants, in addition to blindness and bone deformities. (RELATED: Taxpayer-Funded Health Agency Caught Promoting Woke Ideology)

KHOU explains how the city is responding:

To combat the syphilis outbreak, the city is putting into place the following measures:

Waving all clinical fees for sexually transmitted infections at its health centers.

Expand[ing] the use of its HIV/STD mobile clinic to increase the number of community screening sites. Mobile clinics will also be set up in areas considered hotspots, which are selected from disease monitoring and case management data.

Working with medical providers and collaborating with community-based partners to increase awareness of the outbreak and enhance testing and treatment.

Syphilis infections, treatable with antibiotics, often go ignored as the carrier misses or misinterprets the symptoms for something else.
