President Donald Trump has released footage of U.S. airstrikes targeting ISIS operatives in Somalia, a decision underscoring his administration’s total commitment to eliminating terrorist threats. The strike, which took place Saturday morning in the Golis Mountains, was aimed at high-ranking members of the Islamic State’s East Africa faction.
Within minutes of Trump sharing the footage, the video gained traction online, quickly amassing nearly three million views. The clip showed a series of powerful explosions obliterating ISIS positions.

Trump confirmed the strikes later that day, stating they were directed at a senior ISIS attack planner and other members of the jihadist network. The operation is part of ongoing U.S. military efforts in Africa, carried out in coordination with regional governments.
The Trump administration has taken an aggressive approach to counterterrorism, particularly in targeting ISIS leadership. The president previously oversaw the successful operation that killed ISIS founder Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in Syria.
While Trump did not name the specific terrorist leader targeted in Somalia, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated that initial reports confirmed multiple ISIS operatives were eliminated with no civilian casualties. Hegseth called the strike a clear demonstration of U.S. resolve in the fight against terrorism.
“This action further degrades ISIS’s ability to plot and conduct terrorist attacks threatening U.S. citizens, our partners, and innocent civilians,” the statement read. “It sends a clear signal that the United States stands ready to find and eliminate terrorists who threaten our nation and allies.”
U.S. military officials have warned of ISIS’s increasing footprint in northern Somalia, where the group has received directives from its leadership on kidnapping, military tactics and drone evasion.
Meanwhile, the U.S. counterterrorism mission in Africa has faced considerable difficulties. Last year, Chad and Niger expelled U.S. forces from key bases that were instrumental in training and conducting operations against terrorist networks in the Sahel region.
Despite challenges in recent years, the Trump administration is resolutely committed to intensifying its efforts against ISIS in Africa.
