California is weighing a first-in-the-nation proposal that could make illegal immigrants eligible for state-funded home loans, offering up to $150,000 in assistance for down payments. If approved, the measure would rely on taxpayer funds to support the down payments for these individuals.
The proposed program, known as the “California Dream for All” loan program, aims to provide 20% down payment assistance, with a cap of $150,000. Proponents argue that the initiative could help undocumented immigrants achieve homeownership, providing them with stability and a stake in their communities. However, critics raise concerns about the potential for increased financial burden on taxpayers, questioning the implications of extending such benefits to illegal immigrants.

Harris, in her DNC acceptance speech Thursday said the country can “live up to our proud heritage as a nation of immigrants, and reform our broken immigration system.” While the California proposal targets prospective homebuyers and not new migrants, it could nonetheless carry a political risk for Harris by providing fodder for Trump as he seizes on anything that could link his opponent to the border crisis.
Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt called the bill “fundamentally unfair but typical Democrat policy.” The Harris campaign declined to comment on the proposal.
In California, Republican lawmakers have also pushed back.
GOP Assemblymember Joe Patterson, who represents a largely suburban district north of Sacramento, said at a committee hearing this summer that he “just can’t get behind using our limited dollars for people who are in this country undocumented.”
The bill’s author, Fresno Democrat Joaquin Arambula, emphasized that the initiative requires applicants to meet the criteria established by the Federal National Mortgage Association or Fannie Mae.
One requirement is that applicants must have a taxpayer identification number or Social Security number to apply for a loan.
According to Arambula, this ensures that those seeking homeownership under the bill are already contributing taxpayers, addressing concerns about financial responsibility.
Financial institutions almost always require down payments for home purchases to reduce the lender’s risk, ensure that the borrower has a vested interest in the property and demonstrate financial stability and commitment to repaying the mortgage. Down payments also help safeguard lenders and the housing market from potential downturns.
Governor Gavin Newsom, a top surrogate for Vice President Kamala Harris, has yet to take a definitive stance on the bill. “If the bill reaches his desk, the governor will evaluate it on its merits,” a spokesperson for Newsom said. Newsom, who has referred to himself as a “border state governor,” has previously told people not to lecture him on the border.

California is home to an estimated 2 to 2.7 million illegal immigrants, the largest such population in the United States. The exact number varies depending on the source and methodology used for estimates.
The measure comes as the Biden administration is projected to reach 10 million encounters at the nation’s borders before the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30.

I believe California Democrats should give all their money to ANY person or organization that is illegal . No need for any law enforcement because there are no laws to enforce. all individuals will be free to do whatever they see is appropriate to any individual in the USA whether citizen or not over age 18 or not, any person who is male, female, or gender neutral and the only regulalatoty authority will be personal discretion.

. all illegal aliens should be funded to purchase anything they want and that should be paid for by u.s. citizens because all are rich. this legislation should spread to the remainder of the states in this country so that they will all become bankrupt and the bureaucrats will be gone, so will all legislators and all appointed and funded positions of government. This may lead to the beneficial outcome of no governement for anyone one within US borders and that should result in survival of the fittest, which will control population problems in the foremer democracy.
