Whistleblowers have long claimed the FBI investigated parents concerned about school COVID policies using laws intended to fight terrorists.
Now Republican Reps. Jim Jordan (Ohio) and Mike Johnson (La.) say they have proof, despite U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland’s assurances it never happened. (RELATED: US Attorney General Accused of Using Federal Terror Authority to Protect Family Business Interests)
The targeting of parents who spoke up at school board meetings or against school officials allegedly occurred after a hyperbolic letter from the National School Boards Association (NSBA) arrived at the White House in September.
Shortly afterward, Garland joined the NSBA’s cause, directing the FBI to work with the appropriate U.S. attorneys “to [address threats against school administrators, board members, teachers and staff.” (RELATED: Biden Admin Rewards School Board Association President After Demonizing Parents)

In a letter addressed to the Justice Department, Jordan and Johnson said they have evidence that the FBI labeled dozens of investigations into parents with a threat tag created by the bureau’s Counterterrorism Division to assess and track investigations related to school boards. The evidence comes from “brave whistleblowers” within the Department of Justice, they say in the letter addressed to Attorney General Garland.

An internal email from the FBI’s criminal and counterterrorism divisions instructed agents to apply the threat tag “EDUOFFICIALS” to all investigations and assessments of threats directed specifically at education officials.
Jordan and Johnson, citing a whistleblower, said the FBI opened investigations with the EDUOFFICIALS threat in every region of the country and relating to all types of educational settings.
The lawmakers cited several examples where someone reported a parent, or a state elected official using the FBI’s National Threat Operations Center.
According to Fox News, Jordan and Johnson likened the FBI’s National Threat Operations Center to a “snitch-line” to target concerned parents.
