Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is back in the news, not because of her RICO-themed prosecution of former President Donald Trump and his allies for allegedly attempting to subvert the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia, nor for the timeline of her relationship with former special prosecutor Nathan Wade or her alleged misuse of county funds. This time, it's for appearing on the side of the road with Wade, after her daughter was arrested for driving with a suspended license.
Police bodycam footage captured Willis and Wade – whom she refers to as a “friend” – speaking to a member of the Tyrone Police Department about the arrest of her 25-year-old daughter, Kinaya Willis, that evening.
Law & Crime further reports:
Though the officer did not know why the license was suspended, he speculated it was “probably” because she had a prior speeding ticket or traffic infraction and “didn't take care of it.”
“That's the best guess,” the officer said. “So, she's going over to the Fayette County Jail[.]”
The cop explained that Kinaya Willis would be issued a traffic citation, booked into jail, have a mug shot taken, and be fingerprinted before she could post a bond.
Details in a police report first publicized by the Daily Mail say that the reason Kinaya Willis was pulled over in the first place is that she was allegedly spotted talking on her cell phone with her mom and holding the device up to her ear while driving a Nissan Altima with an “acquaintance” in the car.
According to the police report, Kinaya explained that she was using her cell phone while driving because her mother was calling her regarding her pregnancy.
Officers confirmed that her driving privileges had been suspended after checking her license.
