Ethel Kennedy, who lost her husband Robert F. Kennedy and brother-in-law President John F. Kennedy to assassinations, has passed away at 93
Her grandson, Joseph Kennedy III, confirmed the news on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday morning.
“It is with our hearts full of love that we announce the passing of our amazing grandmother, Ethel Kennedy,” the statement said. “She died this morning from complications related to a stroke suffered last week.”
Kennedy was hospitalized after suffering a stroke last week, her family said Wednesday. She and other family members have long resided on Cape Cod, at the Kennedy Compound in the Hyannis Port area of Barnstable, Massachusetts.
The widow to former U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, with whom she had 11 children, Kennedy devoted much of her life to a human rights organization she helped found in her husband’s name.
Kennedy was awarded in 2014 the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama.
