In a heated Oval Office meeting on Friday, a microphone allegedly picked up Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky muttering “Suka blyat”—a Russian expletive translating to “Oh, for f**k’s sake”—during a contentious exchange with U.S. Vice President JD Vance.
The meeting, intended to finalize an agreement on Ukraine’s rare earth minerals, quickly escalated when discussions shifted to Russia’s ongoing aggression. Zelensky highlighted that Russian strongman Vladimir Putin had violated past agreements and occupied parts of Ukraine during President Donald Trump’s first term.
Vice President Vance retorted, “I think it’s disrespectful for you to come into the Oval Office and try to litigate this in front of the American media.” He further accused Kyiv of coercing civilians into frontline service due to manpower shortages.
Visibly frustrated, Zelensky responded, “Have you ever been to Ukraine to understand the problems we face?”
Vance persisted, alleging without evidence that Zelensky orchestrated propaganda tours to garner international sympathy. It was at this juncture that Zelensky, under his breath, reportedly uttered the expletive, captured by one of the room’s microphones.

The confrontation intensified as Vance questioned, “Mr. President, do you deny facing challenges in military recruitment? And do you believe it’s appropriate to come to the Oval Office and criticize an administration striving to prevent your country’s destruction?”
Zelensky acknowledged universal challenges, stating, “Under war, everybody has problems, even you,” and cautioned that the U.S. might feel the war’s repercussions “in the future.”
President Trump interjected, “You don’t know that,” to which Zelensky replied, “God bless you.”
Trump continued, “Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel. We’re trying to solve a problem. Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel.”
Emphasizing his point, Trump added, “You are in no position to dictate that, remember that,” as Zelensky defended his responses to Vance’s inquiries.
Trump concluded, “I feel we’re going to feel very good, very strong. You’re currently not in a favorable position. You’ve allowed yourself to be in a very bad position.”
He further admonished, “You don’t have the cards right now. With us, you start having cards.”
Zelensky retorted, “I’m not playing cards.”
Trump countered, “Yeah, you’re playing cards. You’re gambling with the lives of millions. You’re gambling with World War III. And what you’re doing is very disrespectful to this country.”
The meeting concluded abruptly, with the planned signing of the minerals agreement and a joint press conference canceled. By all accounts, Friday’s incident has strained U.S.-Ukraine relations and raised concerns among European allies about the future of international support for Ukraine.

Boy, did Zelensky blow this and maybe blow the war and his nation’s autonomy. Lindsey Graham advised him how to handle his time with Trump. That is how diplomacy runs thru channels. Zelensky ignored him. Peace and security would have come in stages. Brett Baier gave him a chance to correct and restart and instead he doubled down.The USA is his only chance. He talked about other European nations willing to put peacekeeping boots on the ground, but they will not go in there without a ceasefire which Zelensky rejected. Zelensky said he wanted Trump to not say he was in the middle but to say he was on Ukraine’s side. How could Trump negotiate with Putin saying that? The USA and Ukraine are not partners nor are we on equal footing. The USA is a benefactor of Ukraine. He does not understand that basic of the relationship. Zelensky seems not too sharp and his ego too big. I hope Ukraine can get a new leader -FAST- and get this corrected. Trump essentially told him that they needed peace now. I don’t think Trump will go on funding this war that is at a stalemate. I sure don’t want to see Ukraine under Putin. There have been a lot of lives lost and a lot of money spent and Zelensky is wasting it all.

Yeah, that’s NOT what happened. You should go back and watch the video of the entire conversation, which is available for all the world to see. For the first 45 minutes of their meeting Zelenski kept bringing up that they needed security assurances added to this agreement, litigating the agreement in front of the media. He wasn’t there to negotiate an agreement. He was there to sign an agreement he had already committed to sign! In point of fact, this was the THIRD time Zelenski had committed to signing the agreement only to move the goal posts. As Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has already publicly stated, he traveled to the Ukraine over a week ago after Zelenski agreed to sign this rare metals agreement only to arrive and be told by Zelenski that he wanted to sign the agreement when VP Vance and SoS Rubio were in Germany in a few days. Then after committing to sign it, there he moved the goal posts again saying he wanted to fly to Washington D.C. and sign it in person with Trump.

I’m sorry to have heard that Zelenskyy was combative with President Donald Trump and with JD Vance.
My perception of the interaction is that Zelenskyy’s pride overtook his responsibilities to his people.
Zelenskyy doesn’t seem to have an appropriate empathetic view of the situation of Ukrainian people and his army.
A person who purposely expresses bad behavior seems to have been overcome by both pride and fear of Putin.
Zelenskyy’s behavior was NOT that of a leader. He “burned bridges”.

In my opinion, Europe will not defend Ukraine. Gaza neighbors will never take Gaza’s population in. The US will not send troop into either country. So what are Ukraine and Gaza to do? Defend themselves with money and weapons from those most impacted by their demise? Even that is not guaranteed success. Israel is the only country the US can count on to fight and win without allied troops. Remember, we have not won anything significant since WWII, negotiated in Korea then lost a couple.
