PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEF (PDB) – America’s next Sputnik moment is already here. Warnings about America’s declining space dominance have become a familiar refrain. Yet these concerns are not mere bureaucratic hand-wringing—they are real and demand immediate attention.
Nearly seven decades after the Soviet Union’s Sputnik launch jolted America into the space age, the U.S. finds itself at another critical juncture.
This time, however, the wake-up call isn’t a single blinking satellite but a series of escalating challenges that threaten the nation’s long-held supremacy in space.
Recent reports paint a sobering picture. One warns that the U.S. is “in danger of losing its privileged position in space,” while another highlights critical weaknesses in U.S. military space strategy.
Meanwhile, China’s rapid advancement in space technology and Russia’s increasingly aggressive actions—including testing anti-satellite weapons that created dangerous debris fields—signal new dangers.
These nations have developed sophisticated capabilities to disable or destroy U.S. space assets through means from cyberattacks to direct-ascent missiles.
America needs to WAKE UP to this existential threat before it’s too late.
FOR YOUR EYES ONLY – Here’s a roundup of today’s other top defense stories ending the week from conservative national security expert PAUL CRESPO.
Not the President’s Daily Brief, but almost as good – PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEFING – the PDB:
NATIONAL SECURITY
The US should cut defense spending. Here’s how. The proposed 2025 Defense budget is $850 billion, and when Department of Energy funding for military nuclear programs is factored in, the total tops $895 billion. Yet, the Joint Chiefs of Staff say they can’t meet assigned missions without more money.
Military officials increasingly see big near-term possibilities in quantum sensors. Measuring the same kind of microscopic motion as atomic clocks, quantum magnetometers, gravitometers could help frontline forces navigate when GPS is jammed or hunt targets without conventional radar and sonar.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR
Putin aide rejects Trump’s 30-day Ukraine ceasefire proposal.
The UK has confirmed that it will have supplied Ukraine with tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition, thousands of drones, and a range of advanced weapons systems in the 2024-25 fiscal year, with much more planned for 2025-26.
IRAN THREAT/ISRAEL WARS
SPACE THREAT
NEED MORE GUARDIANS – Leaders in charge of Space Force components embedded with combatant commands say their organizations are too small to engage with joint forces as needed. They highlighted the manpower and resource crunch they face as the Space Force’s mission and presence grows around the globe.
INTERNATIONAL SECURITY
Biggest threat since the Cold War. The UK must strengthen its air and missile defenses to counter a growing threat of up to 800 Russian missiles threatening critical military infrastructure.
Philippines ex-president Duterte’s first night in a jail cell is a pivotal moment for the ICC.

US MILITARY
The Army is looking for a new machine gun with longer reach chambered to fire the .338 Norma Magnum cartridge, but that can also be converted to use the same 6.8x51mm ammunition as its next-generation M7 rifles and M250 light machine guns.

This article, about the space race and emotions concerning said space race, reminds me of that movie, the original “The Day the Earth Stood Still”, with Michael Rennie and GORT as his police backup. Rennie called all the leaders of the world together and warned the world that if it can’t police its actions, the police force GORT belongs to will solve the problems “FOR THEM”. That earth is being watched and about to be invaded by alien police forces to calm everything down. Now, that was just a movie, and the remake with Keanu Reeves followed the original script, and even used the original GORT in the movie. But think about it. Russia, China, and the U.S. are in a volatile space race. What “IF” we are actually under that kind of scrutiny from outside forces that we don’t even know about. I repeat, that was just a movie, AND a remake of the original. But just think about it. Someone will make a snide remark, not keeping up with what’s going on right now between the three countries. It’s just a thought.
Lets look at the Defense budget and place it next to the Welfare Budget in the USA and see which we really need to trim. We can have a high welfare budged which will cease if we are take over by a more technically advanced nation who attacks us and wins. The opposing view is that we still secure our military might with a decent budget and trim the welfare budget by creating more industry so the workers earn a living rather than giving them subsistance and destroying their ability and desire to succeed. IN that case if attacked we win, our workers still have pride and win, and our nation wins. Welfare destroys the will to try, to excell, and to exceed over a period of time. Once you cross the multi-generation of welfare individuals feel that is there way to make a living. Perhaps we need a program which would encourage returnign to making a living instead of being given a living. Year one, give an applicant 100% of what they qualify for; Year 2, give them 75% of what they qualify for; Year 3, give them 50% of what they qualify for, Year 4 give them 25% of what they qualify for, and year 5 they are cut off for a period of 5 years from any welfare. Then while they are on welfare they must enter a trade school or higher learning school to learn a trade and be an asset to their community. If they fail to do that, their welfare is cut off. Simple and sweet.
