In a recent interview with Fox News host Bret Baier, Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. addressed the controversy surrounding the nomination of Dr. Casey Means as the U.S. Surgeon General. Dr. Means, a Stanford-trained physician who left her surgical residency in 2018, has faced criticism for her unconventional approach to medicine and her lack of an active medical license. Kennedy staunchly defended her appointment, emphasizing her commitment to reforming healthcare and promoting a holistic approach to health.
“She’s come under her own criticism about some of the things she’s advocated for,” noted Baier. “She never finished her residency and she doesn’t currently have an active medical license.”
Kennedy replied, “She was the top of her medical– very top of her medical class at Stanford. During her residency, she won every award that she could’ve won. She walked away from traditional medicine because she was not curing patients. She couldn’t get anybody within her profession to look at the nutrition contributions to illness, and she said, ‘If we’re really gonna heal people, if we’re healers, we can’t just be making our life about billing new procedures. We actually have to figure out new approaches to medicine, and that’s the kind of leadership that she’s gonna bring to our country.”
Nicole Shanahan, who was previously a running mate of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., publicly criticized the appointment of Dr. Means. Shanahan alleged that Kennedy had promised not to appoint the Means siblings to roles within the Department of Health and Human Services. She expressed concerns about the influence of the Means family on Kennedy’s decisions, suggesting that he may be “reporting to someone regularly who is controlling his decisions.”
During the interview with Bret Baier, Kennedy addressed these accusations, asserting that Dr. Means is a visionary advocate for the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement. He highlighted her achievements and commitment to challenging conventional healthcare norms.
“Your former running mate weighed in today, saying that she wasn’t happy about this and that you were somehow being controlled, your decisions are being controlled. That’s what she posted,” said Baier.
Kennedy explained, “Listen, you’ve got sitting here four people who were all cancelled during Covid. The entire leadership of this agency are renegades who are, you know, who are juggernauts against convention and who are trying to look for truth, no matter what the cost. Casey is among those.”
Baier persisted, “So nobody’s controlling your decisions?”
Kennedy did not directly respond to Baier’s question about whether his decisions are being controlled by others.

Dr Casey Means is an excellent choice for the job; the more upset “they” are about her, the better I like her!
Gppd one. We need these types of leaders to step up for us. Many of our health approaches suck and we need people like this who are committed to helping people stay healthy while curing the unhealthy ones. I am in my senior years and see so many medically prescribed seniors all around me who suffer on a daily basis. I question the health professionals whom I must see on a regular basis who do little or nothing for me to help with easing my medical problems. I am looking hopefully at these health professionals that Robert Kennedy has gathered around him to help solve many of America’s health problems. Thanks for the well-prepared article.
