On Thursday, Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) will announce his retirement during remarks on the House floor after 45 years in Congress.
Hoyer, 86, told The Washington Post in an interview published late Wednesday that he will not run for reelection in November.
“I did not want to be one of those members who clearly stayed, outstayed his or her ability to do the job,” he told the news outlet.
