A person found dead inside a Boston rental property owned by the husband of Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) died from a single gunshot wound, according to authorities, who are investigating the case as a homicide.

Boston police responded to an “investigate person” call at about 1:52 p.m. Saturday at 25 Malta St. in the city’s Mattapan neighborhood. Officers discovered a deceased individual inside the multi-family home and turned the investigation over to the department’s Homicide Unit.

Police have not publicly identified the victim or announced any arrests. Authorities said the victim was known to police.

Property belongs to Pressley’s husband

Public property records identify the home as belonging to Conan Harris, Pressley’s husband. The couple does not reside at the property, which has long-term tenants and is currently listed for sale.

A spokesperson for Pressley said neither the congresswoman nor her family were involved in the incident.

“The congresswoman extends her deepest condolences to the impacted family,” the spokesperson said.

Victim died from gunshot wound

Following the initial discovery, Boston police confirmed the victim died from a single gunshot wound. Investigators have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting or identified any suspects.

The case remains under active investigation by the Boston Police Homicide Unit, which is responsible for investigating suspicious and unexplained deaths in the city.

Investigation continues

Authorities have not said whether the shooting was targeted or whether there is any ongoing threat to the public. Detectives remained at the scene collecting evidence as the investigation continued.

Police have emphasized that the ownership of the property does not indicate any connection between Harris, Pressley, or their family and the victim’s death. No allegations of wrongdoing have been made against the property’s owners.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact the Boston Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 617-343-4470. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the department’s CrimeStoppers program by calling 1-800-494-TIPS or using the Crime Stoppers Text-A-Tip Program.
