One of the most powerful Democrats in Congress violated federal law and House rules by demanding free gifts, the Office of Congress ruled, but no action will likely be taken to punish her.
New York Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, a 15-term incumbent, illicitly demanded free tickets to New York’s Met Gala, a lavish nationally-televised celebrity fundraiser featuring top Hollywood figures, the report found.
The report was finalized in June but only recently made public.

In the report, the OCE excerpts an email that describes how Maloney complained to Metropolitan Museum of Art officials when she wasn’t invited to the 2016 Met Gala, a fundraiser for the museum’s Costume Institute that is run in conjunction with Vogue magazine and is one of New York City’s glitziest events.
“I received a call this past week from Carolyn,” reads an April 2016 email from Emily Rafferty, a former museum president. “She is unhappy to say the least that she is not receiving an invitation to the Party of the Year. … She went on about how much she does for the Met, always responsive when you call, and proactive re the institution’s concerns in DC. She has been coming to the party for years, and it is the one thing she cares about. Somehow she knows that the numbers are not smaller this year, so that should not be an issue.”
The report says Maloney’s efforts had an impact on future years, citing an Aug. 16, 2018, email from the museum’s former chief government relations officer about the importance of inviting local officials and how a past mandate to reduce seats and limit invitations to members of the museum’s board “bruised egos.”
“We added Carolyn Maloney to that list even though she does not have a seat on our Board,” the email says. “When she learned she would not be attending that year’s gala (2015) she actually pushed back. … We have ultimately secured one seat for her each year.”
Tickets to the Met Gala cost a reported $35,000 each.
Maloney denied to investigators ever soliciting tickets and continued to deny soliciting tickets even after being shown emails in which she solicited tickets.
Federal law and House rule prohibit members of Congress from soliciting free gifts. Tickets to events like the Met Gala may only be accepted if they are not solicited and publicly reported.
As a 15-term lawmaker, Maloney has been repeatedly informed of the rule but will not be punished. Maloney was defeated in this year’s Democrat primary by fellow Democrat Congressman Jerry Nadler after New York lost a House seat and she and Nadler were paired in the same district. The OCE and Ethics Committee have no jurisdiction over former members.
The Biden Justice Department does not appear to be investigating the reported violation of federal law.
Not only did Maloney support the hiring chair of 87,000 new IRS employees to audit Americans, but she is also Chair of the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee tasked with investigating corruption.

What she did is nothing new. That’s been going on for many decades with the democrats . Sadly, nothing will happen because the dems are still in the majority until January. She will be allowed to just fade away.
So if aocrat still holds a seat we don’t hear of any indiscretions but if the Democrat no longer holds a seat than the report is released showing how they will tot take any action. Meanwhile if a GOP member is no longer holding office the Democrats will even fabricate allegations of criminality where no evidence exists.
