The State Department is preparing to sharply reduce the number of U.S. diplomatic posts in Africa authorized to process visa applications, consolidating full consular operations into 20 regional hubs across the continent as part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to tighten control over immigration.

The changes are expected to take effect in June, according to three U.S. officials and an internal State Department memo. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the policy publicly.

Currently, nearly 50.

ANALYSIS – Some things are funny, even when dealing with a tragic and deadly incident. Last March, Russian military pilots bombed a theater-turned-shelter in Mariupol, Ukraine, killing hundreds of civilians.

But now Ukrainian hacktivists tricked a group of 12 Russian military wives into posing for a photo that outed their war criminal husbands involved in the horrific bombing, as well as potentially hundreds of other airstrikes on civilian targets, homes and businesses.

The southern port city on the Sea of Azov had been under siege and bombardment from Russian forces for more than two weeks when the theater was deliberately struck.

The bombing was even more infamous because satellite images showed the Mariupol Drama Theatre before the bombing, with the word “children” written in Russian (Cyrillic) in large white letters on the ground outside the front and rear of the building.

Activists sent the new evidence to the International Criminal Court as it pursues war crime charges against Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

According to the New York Post, the sneaky sting operation, which exposed 12 elite Kremlin combat pilots to potential war crime charges, was:

…spearheaded by Cyber Resistance, a Ukrainian hacker group that engages in guerrilla warfare, and InformNapalm, a Ukraine volunteer journalism outfit that investigates Russian war efforts, according to the latter group.

Cyber Resistance was able to hack into the email of Col. Sergey Atroshchenko, commander of the 960th Assault Aviation Regiment, stationed in occupied Crimea, according to InformNapalm.

Posing as a Russian officer in the regiment, the hackers contacted Antroshchenko’s wife and convinced her to organize a photo shoot with the wives and girlfriends of the other pilots, supposedly to boost morale, the organization said.

Lilia Antroshchenko took the bait, and used her status as a colonel’s wife to convince 11 other air force WAGs to pose in their significant others’ military uniforms at the airfield — exposing both their identities and providing a closer look at the war planes used by the squad.

Col. Sergey Atroshchenko was also doxxed by the hackers who published his personal and financial records online, as well as posting two provocative shots of his scantily clad wife in a bra and thong that she had sent him.

No news on whether there were any more incriminating photos provided by other wives.
